i realize you have a different perspective and rightfully so, you are a mother and married and you have been through some really hard things as i understand it. I always liked your personailty and i was shocked when i discovered you weren't and idealist and a liberial like us well minded people. In the time since i found out about your "problem" (being a republican, prolifer, etc.) I have honestly looked at you differently.

All that said,

I read your comment word for word and i am purely speaking from my liberal stand point when i say your comments eptimise what i dont understand about the republican-conversative-christian-captialist (not calling you all those things just stating that i am generalizing them to make a point)

(calling liberalism lazy is what enraged me if you need to know ;))

ok my point;

your philosophy example humors me becuase it reminds me of a professional baseball player named Wade Boggs who i once heard tell an interviewer who questioned his team spirit, (paraphrazing)"does it not help my team if i get 3 hits a night?"

We all know he is obviously right however much like you stated that Communism just isnt a practical solution, either is that philosophy in alot of ways and i think even with our differences of opinion on these subjects you would agree with me that it just isnt practical.

I think when you make the analogy about the fish you say, its wrong to give handouts-- i disagree, i know there are people in this world (your children namely) you would do anything for. Some people (most liberals) feel that way about EVERYONE, and i dont want this to sound condesending but i do know thats going to be hard for you to rationalize, that doesnt make it any less true.

Its sad to me that "these people" (refer to warning of rude generalization) make the agruement that people will learn to feed themselves on their own yet they dont believe in evolution, they preach helping others but they dont know that means actually helping other people.....

and to the idea that some people are taught to be number one, i think their are a good number of people born to be competive and sure it can be stronger when feed but i think its still true that its a human reaction.

responding to this has taken me a great deal of time and i would like to say i very much enjoyed listening to the following song on repeat while writing it "We Laugh Indoors" by Death Cab for Cutie

I know this point of view exists... I'm just saying that it's counter-productive. Doing good for others so you can get a warm fuzzy feeling doesn't end up helping them in the long run. Another way to look at it is, conservatives are stuck in the past, and liberals are stuck in the present... there's not a damn person out there (at least, not in an organized, political fashion) looking towards the future. At some point, you just have to draw a line in the sand and say "NO MORE." If a few people get passed over in the course of things, that's just tough luck. I know when I talk about politics, I'm the Queen of Cliche's... but to make an omelete, you have to break some eggs. You can't save EVERYone. It's not physically possible. By trying, we get caught in a vicious circle, and we eliminate all hope for a better tomorrow.

Of course. Like I said, I think BOTH extremes (liberal & conservative) are dead wrong (I just tend to lean more to the conservative side on a number of issues).

I wish I could explain the philosophy example better... I'm going to look it up when I get home.

Thanks for taking the time to respond; I think a LOT of people are surprised that I'm *not* a "bleeding heart liberal," because I have all the makings of one... and I find it hard sometimes to get people I respect to understand my position.

PS - I didn't call liberals lazy... I just said that liberalism breeds a culture of laziness! (ie, it doesn't give any incentive for hard work)
