Posting for those of you who aren't friended on Facebook.
I've been evacuated from my home due to a fire threatening my hometown. Mine is a voluntary evacuation, but most residents are under a mandatory evacuation. I'm staying in a hotel about 40 miles away from where I live.
The good news is that I've done this before, 11 years ago. We were much better organized this year. I have clothes with me, for example, which is something I totally forgot last time and spent much of my evacuation in leopard print pajama pants and t-shirts. Internet is making it MUCH easier to stay connected with people and receive updates. And our portion of the town appears to be out of the danger zone, so currently my house is safe. Winds have been shifting like mad, though, so I'm not holding my breath.
I'm not sure when I'll be able to go home, but I'm hoping it'll be within a week or so. In the meantime, my family is safe, our pets are safe, and I can't ask for much more than that.
