I have spent the last three days watching Heroes. I'm almost done with the first season. (I promise, by the way, that I'm not totally wasting my life here - I'm also crocheting up a huge afghan at the same time so I can pretend I'm being productive.)
I am probably not meant to squeal in glee every time Sylar does something, am I?
In all seriousness, Zachary Quinto plays a fucked up, mass murdering narcissist scary well. I can totally see why people were going, "Sylar is Spock WHAT NO!" when his casting was announced. He absolutely creeps me out at times - his escape from the paper factory, his terrifying insistence to Chandra that he's special, etc. But just watching the wheels turn in his head is kind of awe-inducing. (Also hot.) It's really easy for an actor to completely ruin a mad genius like that by overacting the self-importance or delusions of grandeur or even doing over exaggerated "This is my THINKING face!" bullshit. I haven't seen Quinto do that yet, and it's lovely. You can see him considering the next step in his fucked up plan and yes please, I will have a lot more of that.
I am also really impressed at Claire's actress (whose name I know but cannot spell). I expected her to be more ... airy or overdone or super angsty, but she's pretty much pitch perfect. I really enjoy the majority of the characters. I think the only one who annoys me is Peter, and that's because I'm currently watching him turn into the anti-Sylar with all the awesome removed. I will not be shedding tears if he goes kaboom at the end of season one, is what I am saying. I am also aware of the physics of superhero shows so it's not like he wouldn't reincarnate himself anyway, like they always ALWAYS do.
So that's what I'm spending my last two days of freedom doing before work starts up again Wednesday.
