Another eventful week passes

After a short stint in special care nursery for the baby with low blood sugar levels, DD#1 took Amelie Jane home (via her air conditioned MIL's house) on  Friday afternoon.  We've had extremely hot temps lately, with very high 30's C and even 41.5 some days. Then on Monday evening Di phoned to say she was back in hospital with a suspected Staph infection in her Caesar wound. Of course Amelie had to go to the hospital with her, but this time she was in a one bed room so a lot quieter and more sleep was possible than her last stay, VBG.

Finally, mum and bub went home again after a heavy antibiotic regime on Thursday morning. Whew, lucky it wasn't Golden Staph which is hard to shake. Another pocket of infection has burst through just today, so hopefully that's the lot out now, and she can start to heal, finally.  It's been traumatic for them (and us too just quietly!) but I'm sure Amelie won't remember any of it, and she's such a little cutie. One really great thing that happened was that on Tuesday morning when I arrived to visit at the hospital I was asked if I'd like to bath the baby. Would I ????? I've already changed her nappies several times to help my daughter out, so bathing her was a real treat. Who would have thought bathing a baby could bring such pleasant memories of my own babies rushing in??  I got quite emotional and all.

In between all of this family stuff, of course, everyone's been suffering through the builders working in the extreme heat on the back part of our house. For us this means  the air con can't be used in the back half of the house due to open doors. Poor builders have been extremely hot too, I feel for them. I've been cocooned in the living room with the air con going full speed, trying to sort out bookcases, and cupboards, shelves and drawers ready for repainting in the back half and 3 windows being replaced in the front half of the house. And the very worst part is that as I want the sewing room window replaced , I have to UNPACK the sewing table and surrounding shelves so the builders can stand on my cutting table to remove and replace the window.  OMG, you should see the mess that room is in after the Christmas lay-off, can you imagine how long it'll take to unpack it?  I have 1 week left to do it, and I'd really like to be available to help DD#1 when her partner goes back to work on Tuesday after the Australia Day holiday . Her MIL and some of her friends have offered to stand in for a while so I can get the house ready for the builders, then I'll be more able to devote time to helping her. She's under Doctor's orders to rest for at least 4 weeks and care only for the baby and herself. Just as well I  really like to do housework at other peoples homes !!

builders, amelie
