Counting Flat Things...

Which is totally different than counting blue cars. (I heard that song on the PA system at the grocery store last week. I hadn't thought about it in years -- and I don't even really like it, it was just something I'd noticed.)

Anyhow, apparently I have to count all of the pages I've copied (or had copied, in the case of the stuff that's too big for a standard copier). I'm not sure why, my mother said it had something to do with how much the people who normally would have made the copies would have charged (something like 15 cents a page, which seems a little high to me; they're just black and white copies after all). She said something about money, but I wasn't really paying attention.

I got asked last night if the outfit I'm doing the copying for had decided to pay me yet. I said no, but I am going to outline my interest in/requirements for remuneration prior to accepting any more of this kind of work. I have a huge pile of stuff that my mom needs me to look up and sort, so it's not like I don't have anything else to do. (And it's one thing to do stuff for my mom w/o compensation, because she's my mom and she does feed me. It's something else entirely to copy a casefile for someone that I only know to say hello to and have no other bond or obligation with/to.

I know that I'm not going to ever be paid what I personally feel my time is worth, but it'd be nice if I could get something resembling a decent compromise.

one two three five- damn!, 'cash' is a compelling reason, whose idea was this again?, why am i obligated to do free work?, money money money, it's not my ideal career, do this for a living? no thank you, i've got other things to do, these dox are older than me, $85/hr sounds fair to /me/...
