within the past 6 or 7 months, i've had a persistent pain along the right side of my spine, between my shoulderblade and hip, and SPLITTING headaches on the left side.
i had my 1-month post-op follow up with DR. G on wednesday, and while everything there seems to be healing as normal, she asked me about any headaches, and i told her about the ones i've been having. the ear infection that got me to go to her in the first place was in the left ear, and my major polyps and cysts were on that side as well, so i figured they might be related. after describing my symptoms to her, she said, "it sounds like you have migraines. i'm going to write you a prescription for some motrin 600s, but i want you to see your PCP (primary care physician) as soon as you can." my sister was diagnosed with migraines when she was about 13, but she's not into taking meds, so she never really got any treatment.
i was lucky enough to get an appointment for friday @ 11, but even after showing up early, i still had a 2-hour wait to be seen. i described all my symptoms to DR. O, and he initially said migraines, too. he looked back over my history with him (only about 2 years back), did some physical testing, looked in my eyes, and said, "you know what? your headache symptoms sound like migraines, but the other things you've described, plus your lack of visual disturbance makes me think it could be something else." he told me about a patient he'd had with this condition (pseudo-something, i don't think he ever got the whole word out), but it was just the one in all the time he's been practicing. "i want you to go to an ophthalmologist and a neurologist. i'll write you a referral and i want you to see them before the end of the month. it doesn't matter which one you see first, but i want you to see them both to rule out anything more serious than just migraines."
seriously? a neurologist? an eye doc? my vision is just fine, aside from astigmatism in my left eye, for which i wear corrective lenses, so i know my visit is about something deeper than headaches caused by squinting. oh, did i mention that vicodin has been giving me NO relief? it worked just fine on the post-surgical pain in my nose and the resulting soreness in my face, but my back and headaches wouldn't take the bait, so i'm in a fair bit of pain almost constantly. the appointment with the neuro is on the fifth, the eye doc's office wasn't picking up when i called on friday, so hopefully i can get a spot on a day i'll already be out of the office.
i told QB, but she did her usual thing and turned my news to her into something about herself. my coworkers/boss seem concerned. my sister asked if i had a brain tumor.
all in all, i think that my lack of information about what it COULD be is helping me not to freak out. i can't google search or look on webmd. all i have is my pain, my daily notebook with symptoms, and upcoming appointments.
this is kind of a big deal, so i'll try to keep things updated here.
