Simple Wins and Simple Fails

Sep 08, 2010 09:36

Simple Fails:
1. I did not stretch or eat sensibly last night.

2. My air condition broke leading to major uncomfy times at Chez Candice.

3. I did not spend an hour looking for a job like I said I would.

4. I went to bed late.

5. My fear of driving on highways in the rain meant I didn't get to see my darling liminalliz :(

Simple Wins:
1. I went to the grocery store (in the middle of a tropical storm) and got fruit and tea and oatmeal.

2. I made Ginger Carrot Soup even though using the oven meant my apartment would heat up. Also I totally ad libbed the recipe and it came out delicious! I'll include it below.

3. In a fit of pique I cleaned my microwave, swiffered my kitchen and bathroom floors and took a sponge to the baseboards.

4. The apartment complex has already called me to say that they received the work order and will be attending to it today.

5. I spent last night reading a Japanese gay figure skating comic and my life could not be better. You know what I love about Japanese story telling? Plot is secondary to beauty. Sometimes it's like everything in Japanese story telling is both effortlessly quotidian and melodramatic. Simultaneously.

Announcement:
I have gone and gotten myself tumblr. Because the only social networking siren song I've ever been able to avoid is MySpace. Anyway check it out!

Deth Spïralz: A Tumblr

I had meant it to be something like a general blog, but it's ended up becoming my unnofficial "Fuck Yeah! Magical Zebra" source. None of the Stephane related tumblr's are very active so I've taken it upon myself to post 1 video, 1 quote, and 1 pic for a week. Then I might start rotating each type of media around. I'm still leery of actually dubbing myself a "Fuck Yeah!" tumblr because I don't understand tumblr at all. Also I'm shippy and I don't know if people of the internet at large should be exposed to that.

So yes. Follow me if you like!

ETA: Hey! I said I'd include a recipe.

Ingredients:
- 1 or 2 tbsp. of butter
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 lb. carrots, peeled, and diced into 1 in. pieces
- 12 oz. or so of chicken stock
- 1/2 cup of corn kernels (frozen or fresh)
- 1 1/2 in. piece of ginger, peeled and grated
- Salt and Pepper

Directions: Saute the onions in the butter until transparent. Add the carrot pieces and corn kernels in and add just enough chicken stock until completely covered. Return to a simmer and add ginger. Season liberally with salt and pepper and whatever spice strikes your fancy.

Simmer until the carrots are fork tender. Remove from heat and (working in batches) blend soup until lovely and creamy. Taste test for appropriate level of seasoning.

Eat and profit.
