Sally Leadfoot Needs Advice

I got a speeding ticket on the way to the ranch last weekend because I am generally made of awesome.

My last speeding ticket was in December of 2008 meaning that it's still about a year before it goes off my driving record. That ticket never got dismissed because I was lazy and I didn't think it was a big deal. I just paid it off and assumed there would be no issue later on. Sigh.

This means that my car insurances rate will go up in November when my record is pulled for a new insurance contract. Probably the last thing in the world I need.

I'm totally confused by the information out there. I need some help:

- Does a "dismissed" ticket get reported to your insurance? (Surely it does...)

- Is taking defensive driving ALWAYS helpful or would it not really effect my situation at all? Progressive (my insurance company) does not offer defensive driving discounts just in general and so it would not effect the ticket if it is reported.

- One person said that if it's no more than 10 miles over the speed limit it doesn't usually effect your rates? (But the presence of two tickets probably negates that...)

- What would YOU do/have you done to handle sticky car insurance situations?
