    • ½ c sugar;
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Cookies
    • ¾ c vegetable shortening;
    • ½ c unsalted butter, softened;
    • ¾ sugar;
    • ¾ brown sugar, packed;
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract;
    • 2 eggs, large;

    • 1¼ c cocoa powder;
    • 1 tbsp cinnamon;
    • 2 tsp baking soda;
    • ¼ tsp salt;
    • ¼ tsp ground black pepper;
    • pinch cayenne pepper;
    • 1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Combine sugar & cinnamon for topping & set aside.
Beat shortening, butter, sugars & vanilla until creamy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, cinnamon & baking soda. Stir in salt & peppers. Gradually add dry ingredients to butter mixture, beating after each addition. Stir in chocolate chips.
Roll into one-inch balls (don't flatten) & roll each in cinnamon & sugar topping. Place on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper, about 2" apart. Bake in oven for 7-10 min. Cookies should still be soft in centre. Let cool on baking sheets for 3-5min, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
