Claudia turned 16 months on Saturday. She's getting to be such a big girl, and in some ways, she is so different from her brother. A brief update follows. I am not sure that I can cover everything, because it seems like she's doing so much that I am sure to forget stuff.
- She LOVES reading books. She will sit in my lap and let me read to her for a very long time. At this age, Nick would only sit for a couple pages, and I don't remember him ever just sitting on the floor by himself, "reading" a book, but Claudia will pour over books and babble to herself and point at the pictures for a good 10 or 15 minutes. Last night, Nick read Brown Bear Brown Bear to her before bed, and it was to die for cute, to see him sitting in the big rocking chair in her room, and her in her little rocking chair, reading a book together.
- Still not sleeping well. She woke 3 times last night, I think. And even if we only have to get up long enough to pop the paci back in, I'm still up, and my sleep cycle is still disturbed. I don't know what we're going to do about the situation. Nick was sleeping through the night at this point.
- She seems to be having a language explosion. She's been trying to use more and more words. She doesn't have a very large vocab at this point ('uh-oh,' 'hi,' and 'bye bye' seem to be the extent of it), but last night, she was trying to say 'peek a boo,' and she will point at books and say 'bah' and Trav swears that last night she said "up high" when they were playing a game of high five. Even without words, she is very communicative, and we can tell that she understands a great deal of what we say to her, b/c she follows directions very well. She is also very good at leading us to what she wants and pointing and saying what we're sure is "that." She also signs "more" and "please."
- She is "into" clothes and trying to dress herself. She likes to try to put her socks and shoes on. She takes bows out of her hair and then tries to stick them back in.
- LOVES to brush her teeth and her hair.
- She's a stickler for details, I think. Last night, since I worked late, we got a VERY late start on bedtime, so I figured that instead of reading her "Brown bear Brown bear" (which Nick had already to her anyhow), followed by "The Going to Bed book," followed by "Goodnight Moon," I'd just skip right to "Goodnight Moon." She was not having it. She INSISTED that I read all 3, in the correct order. What a little creature of habit!
- Still super-cute.
