So my mom doesn't get shipping things "that would never happen". I know this. I've known this for a while. It's occasionally frustrating when m/m to her, automatically equals "would never happen" but whatever...
Her double standards when it comes to what constitutes as evidence for a ship never ceases to be annoying though. As an example, we had this conversation in the store yesterday;
Me: I can't believe they actually had someone say that Cas is in love with Dean
Her: Here's the thing... This Balthazar or whoever, he's a bad guy, right?
Me: He's like Gabriel.
Her: Good enough. He's snarky. Nothing he says can be taken seriously.
Me:.... When did I say I took it seriously? I said I couldn't believe they went there.
Her: But just because someone said it doesn't make it true.
Me: When did I say it was true? All I'm saying is that it was a good line, for the love of god stop acting like I'm stupid... Look, how would YOU react if... Say an antagonistic, snarky, but not evil character told Booth or Bones that the other was in love with them?
Her: I would be happy that someone else sees it, and is pointing it out to them.
Me: So how is that different?
Her: It's different because everyone knows they're in love, and they obviously are.
Me: Okay, but what if everyone DIDN'T know? And what if they weren't as obvious about it, but you still shipped them and someone said that one was in love with the other.
Her: I would be excited about it but-
Me: SAME AS YOU. My point is made, ladies and gentlemen, thank you and goodnight.
Her: But it's still not the same because Booth and Bones are obviously made to be together, and Dean and Cas aren't gay and-
And that's where I stopped listening because that's where she goes into her "everyone takes every little line and look out of context and makes it into something it's not and why do they have to do that?"... She recently said the same thing about- with absolutely no provocation from me- about Steve and Danno in H50, because we were talking about how much they argue.
All of this is rather funny, because she's said that if Cas were a chick, she'd ship him with Dean, and that they would be canon right now...
