And also agreeing with the "have some blah and then a sliver of plot!", I don't like having huge, impending, scary plots hanging overhead and then going "we'll be right back after word from our standalones!"

Do you mean random bullet dodging guy near the end who's facial structure is somewhat similar to RSJ's but isn't short enough, doesn't have enough hair, and most certainly isn't Gabriel? Because other than him, I saw no one who could even pass for Gabriel... unless I reeeeaaaallllly missed something (along with my sister, and the rest if the fandom)
LOL @ "we'll be right back after a word from our standalones!"... This exactly. I want the plot to be the focus, damn it, not an after thought. Which is what it felt like this time. Sure, the assassin was chasing them the entire time, but it still felt like an after thought because all the focus was on "holy shit, meta!"... it distracted from the plot. The episode's plot would have worked BETTER in any other setting... as long as it was one where the focus was on the plot, and not on the setting...

That's...kinda why I haven't been watching since Cas's last appearance before the Meg ep (ie, last half). Cuz they're not dealing with anything I want them to deal with :P But this ep was a throwaway from the get-go so I was excited! *pets* To be honest, I was happy to see some plot cuz like I said, I've been out of the SPN loop pretty much, but they could have just made this a straight crazy meta standalone and I feel like it wouldn't have been so bitter to swallow for those who *do* still watch regularly.
It's sad that I'm still glad I'm not watching every week - it sounds like a hellishly frustrating ride. How many eps are left till the end now? Something like 7? And how many eps has Cas been in so far of the 12 he was supposed to appear (I may be making that number up, let me know :P)?
Yeah... if it had just been straight up crazy meta with no plot tacked on, it might not have had me picking at it so badly...
It IS frustrating... And worse, I don't know if it's just that the writers have no idea what they're doing, or if it's how Sera's running things that's made the changes... I just... Ugh...
As for his episodes, I dunno how many he's been in 'cause I can't actually remember which ones he's in (which, considering I have his appearances in seasons 4 and 5 memorized, is sad) because the one's he IS in, he's in for one scene and then gone... And originally he said he was gonna be in 15, 'cause that's what his contract was for... Then it got cut back to "possibly 11"

I kept thinking that maybe we were there after 6.10, but I guess not. I think it's finally time for them to be all on the same page again.
