This is my maternal grandfather, Stanley Clair Knight.
He was born on November 9, 1911.
Upon reviewing the details of his birth certificate -- the dates of his birth conflict.
The date of birth on the top of the certificate says November 9th, but the bottom portion filled out by the attending physician states that they were present at his birth on October 9th, 1911.
His mother, Clara Bell Knight, was not married to his father, Stanley Barrett Moore.
He was given up for adoption as an infant. George and Orpha Wilson adopted him soon after his birth.
I do not know who the other people are in this photo, besides the parents, George and Orpha. My grandfather is the one with the ears. He can always be spotted in photos by the prominent ears.
On the 1920 census, Stanley is listed as eight years old and living on North Johnson Avenue in Pontiac Ward 4, Oakland County, Michigan with George and Orpha Wilson. Please note he was listed as having the last name Wilson. In his twenties, he began to use the name listed on his birth certificate -- Knight.
According to his daughter, Portia (my mother), he told her that he spent time at the Boys Training School in Lansing, Michigan when he was a teenager.
Stanley's marriage to Alice McGoldrich took place on March 22nd, 1929 in Battle Creek, Michigan. Their residence is listed as 286 West Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek, Michigan. He hadn't yet turned eighteen. Alice was a couple of years older than Stanley.
On the 1930 census he is listed as 18 years old and married to Alice (McGoldrich) Wilson, living at 42 South Avenue in Battle Creek, Michigan.
A daughter, June, was born in 1931 to Stanley and Alice.
In 1933 he is listed in the Battle Creek phone book as living at 38 East Hall in Battle Creek with Allie Wilson.
According to my Aunt June, Stanley left her and Alice when she was an infant and she did not see him again until she was a teenager. He may have been listed as living at this address, but by this time, he had left Alice and June.
