Guess what I found on Via del Corso? In a comic book store? Can anyone guess? No?
Rurouni Kenshin. IN ITALIAN.
Oh yes. I was squealing like a fangirl (in my head). The only thing I regret about this is that I should’ve found a comic store in Paris and bought it French! How cool would it be to collect the first volume of your favorite manga from every country you visit?
Now I have Rurouni Kenshin in English, Japanese (my friend bought this for me), and Italian! So fun ^_^
Since I’m slightly bored, I’m going to give my review on Taylor Swift’s new album Speak Now:
1. Mine. This song is adorable, I’m sorry. It holds the magic that was in her first and second albums, but it didn’t want to make my vomit as much.
2. Sparks Fly. It’s cute…a bit generic…but she’s done worse songs.
3. Back to December. This is probably my favorite song lyrically just because she admits she treated a boy like crap. What a first!
4. Speak Now. This is solid proof that she will one day kill innocent boys. This is scary - how much do you want to bet she’s going to ruin dozens of weddings?
5. Dear John. Rather sad! If this song really refers to John Mayer, he’s even more of an asshole than I thought. And a creeper because even though T-Swift is twenty-years-old, she still thinks like a sixteen-year-old; it’s practically pedophilia. I also like how it’s kind of reminiscent of a John Mayer song with the guitar/blues sound - OUCH.
6. Mean. I despise this song, I’m sorry. It’s WAY too country for me. It makes me want to throw things.
7. The Story of Us. I love this one. Probably because this blatantly reminds me of Rory and Jess. There are even book references (lately I don’t even know what page you’re on/next chapter)!
8. Never Grow Up. Um…I teared up. Not gonna lie. But that may be because I’m abroad and kind of missing home a bit. These lyrics are depressing!
9. Enchanted. I go back and forth on this song. Sometimes I like it, sometimes the chorus kind of makes me cringe. Perhaps after a few more listens I’ll come to a more solid decision.
10. Better Than Revenge. I think the misbehaving child metaphor is very strange/awkward. And I HATE the talking! But I can’t help rocking out to this haha.
11. Innocent. Dear Taylor, PLEASE GET OVER WHAT KANYE WEST DID - IF ANYTHING, IT HELPED YOUR POPULARITY. Sincerely, MissGoalie
12. Haunted. I love this song as well since it also reminds me of Rory and Jess, but it also has a cool sound. The orchestra adds a nice, haunting (ha, ha) touch.
13. Last Kiss. Meh, this song is all right. It kind of puts me to sleep, which I guess is a good thing since it’s pleasant in a very, very mellow way. But the lyrics are, again, kind of creepy...
14. Long Live. Two words: Harry Potter. All the magic references kill me (in a good way). Plus, it has the best lyric ever: “The cynics were outrage, screaming this is absurd / ‘Cause for a moment a band of thieves in ripped jeans got to rule the world”
In all, this album was enjoyable and not completely in the “aw, how cute” kind of way like her first two albums were. There were songs that I was actually impressed with, despite it being a bit formulaic - she may be able to get out of that country-pop music niche yet! The only problems I have with this album are the existence of "Mean," "Speak Now," and some of the lyrics, which I found weird coming from a young woman of twenty years (then again, Stephenie Meyer was spouting some of this crap in Twilight). Hopefully she'll continue to grow up and that won't be so much of an issue in her future works.
Okay, I’m going to study Italian by reading RK ^_^x
