Durarara!!: Decently philosophical; mixes mythology with urban Tokyo very nicely; amazing cast of power-seiyuu (looking at the cast was how I initially picked it up, in fact); first half is much better than second half, but second half is still worth watching for Mamoru Miyano's ability to be aaaaamazing.
Toradora!: School-yard romance that initially seemed like a better-version-of-nothing-special to me, but grew on me a ton. I super recommended this one to Sarah, because it reminds me of Special A, only better. Also: only school-yard romcom to ever make me cry when people got rejected by their love interests.
Natsume Yuujinchou: Incredibly sweet, relaxing little gem of an anime that I've been watching one episode a night of before bed along with a cup of chamomile tea.
Code Geass: It kind of wants to be Death Note with mechas. It ends up being...crack. It's super, super popular for reasons I have yet to discern, but it cracks me up and when I had hurt my leg and couldn't walk for weeks, it was what I watched like an addict. There are times when it's really good. But then it gets really bad again.
Oh, and Shiki: Looks to be a good, dark series about vampires in the classical-they-don't-sparkle sense. But might be way too violent for me. Need someone to watch it first and warn me, please?
Didn't bother really giving you summaries because you can find those easily enough, but those are my in-a-nutshell thoughts ^.~
