So you read about my misadventures to and in Texas, but what of the con itself?
This was my second year back at Ikkicon, and I was happy to see many familiar faces! Both my panel times were fairly early in the morning, but the turn out for Cosplay 101 and Cosplay for Photographer were unexpected! Not as many people asked questions, like I had hoped, so that either means I did a really GOOD job of presenting my material, or a really BAD one and left people dumbfounded. ;D
I also joined in on all the Outlander shenanigans. Still have to say our Drunken Tales of Whatever Whatever panel was the highlight. We all decided to "sex it up" a bit and dress down for the event. The guys... went shirtless. When Joe took his hoodie off to reveal what could possibly be the most homoerotic boy-in-vest attire I have ever seen, I screamed! Thanks, Melissa, for doing that to my boyfriend. ;P
The staff at the show was great. I barely saw Blu and Barb the entire weekend, but Tara and Kara kept me company upstairs! I helped model / host the art and charity auctions. Glad I missed the signed Spice and Wolf piece that Kara got, otherwise I'd be out $100 (but it'd look so pretty on my bare walls!). At the charity auction on Sunday, a Soul Eater poster signed by two of the Japanese VAs (maybe even a creator?) went up. First two of the hosts (Brooks and Kara) were bidding against a few folks in the audience. This one girl went to $90, then her friend outbid her by like $125. She looked rather dejected. It eventually turned into a bidding war between Kara and the guy, with him finally winning at $400! So, with his prize in hand, the guy stands up and shows the room his bounty. He then turns to his friend and hands her the poster!!!! There was a collective AWWWW in the audience. He simply responded with, "She's my friend, and she loves the series."
I feel like I spent most of the weekend in panel rooms or helping with some event or another. Which is great, because that is exactly what I'm there to do, but I missed being on the floor and meeting so many people! If you didn't see me, or if I ran off looking perplexed or rushed, it's because I had some event to get to ^_^ I promise I'll make it out to Texas as a con attendee just ONCE so I can just chill. :D
All in all, a fun show. I was happy to spend NYE with my boy, and have Melissa join in in the fun. The next few days are going to be hectic - I start my new job tomorrow, there is talk of snow, and my birthday! Stay tuned for details.
