Example: music.
When you meet someone you like and they listen to a different type of music than you do, DON'T DOWNLOAD EVERY SONG BY THEIR FAVORITE GROUP OR ARTIST AND MEMORIZE THE WORDS JUST SO YOU CAN PRETEND YOU'VE BEEN LISTENING TO THEM FOR YEARS!!!
It's bullshit. And it's fucking stupid.
Because if you really don't like it, then you're going to be miserable. And if the only reason they like you is because you listen to the same music as them... then your relationship is pretty damned pathetic.
I mean... if they get you to listen to something... and you're like, "hey... that's not bad." then whatever. FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC.
Exhibit A: I didn't listen to punk music before me and Cory dated. I STILL don't listen to punk music. I like an AFI song... but that's because that was the song that was on when he said some real cute stuff.
Exhibit B: Now I'm dating Shane. Shane listens to hardcore... metal... shit. I don't know. I hate it. Think it's horrible. I like country. And pop stuff. He will listen to it to appease me. I will listen to his shit to appease him. It's a beautiful thing.
RELATIONSHIPS ARE NOT BASED ON TASTE IN MUSIC.
You are not restricted to dating only the people who like the same genre of music that you do!!!
On that same note... you are not more qualified to date someone over anyone else BECAUSE you listen to the same music as that person.
People date because they like each other. Not because they like the same noise that comes out of the radio.
