I bought my 8 year-old cousin a CD player for Christmas (a cheapo $10 model from Wal-Mart). She's so obsessed with my ipod that I thought it'd be a great gift. Well, her parents are kind of strict and her dad said she couldn't even open the CD player if she didn't have any CDs to play, and her parents aren't exactly the "CD buying" kind ( Read more... )

Some suggestions - Beatles or other pre-psychidelic rock (Elvis, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, maybe, too). It's generally pretty clean, good music, and the parents will appreciate that it's music closer to their generation than to modern stuff, which they might not care for.

Also, classic stuff like Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, etc. etc.

I have a lot of stuff so let me know if you need anything

Thanks for the suggestions. I stuck mainly with light pop/r&b fare because that's what she likes. I tried to put lots of stuff with catchy hooks that she can sing along with easily.

I have no shame when it comes to music, I download EVERYTHING! You never know when you might need to listen to Liquid Dreams by O-Town. I used to burn cd's for everyone when I lived in the dorms, and never took the music off my computer!

Um, I guess stuff by people like, Aaliyah, Soul For Real, Tevin Campbell, Janet Jackson and Blessed Union of Souls would work. Pretty tame early stuff, I suppose. Let me know if you want more suggestions or need more songs because I got a ton. Also, I feel no 8 year old needs to be thinking about her "humps", so yeah, I'd leave that one out. lol!

Haha! I actually included 'My Humps' because I was looking at some 'Kidz Bop' albums for inspiration. Most of the songs they cover are harmless and sugary, and My Humps was on there! I made sure to get an edited version that cut out the words 'ass' and 'breasts'.
