Maybe an actual update?
I applied for and got the post of "Foundation Stage Co-ordinator" at my school. The person who has that role at the moment is resigning so I will be taking over the role in september. For non teachery types this means I will oversee the learning of all the children in the foundation stage, which is nursery (3-4) and reception (4-5). I will still be a teacher just as i was before, but I have managerial and leadership responsibilities across the school.
Well my first real experience of what this means was last week when I was given the applications for the new nursery teacher and asked to give my opinions. Then today I was involved in interviewing the short-listed candidates. I had just kind of thought this was something all people of my equivalent would have done, then realised that none of the people equivalent in grade to me have done this. It felt very heavy in the sense that we really needed to find the best teacher for our school, but also that whoever we choose and don't choose have a decision made that actually effects their life in a real way. Especially those people who don't have a job or a permanent contract at least.
Anyway, it was an interesting and exciting position for me to be in, and I am very excited to work with the successful candidate who seems like she will be great.
I also got a new necklace from
Miffy at Sheep 24 this week. I commissioned her for a wool necklace with big beads, about an inch diameter, in pinks and purples, they look little balls of wool in very pretty colours. I would totally recommend her, my necklace is exactly as I had visualised it except even better, and I had loads of compliments on it when i wore it today. She kept me up to date with what stage she was at with it. And only 20euros for a handmade and personally commissioned piece of jewellery.
And I bought spirals from
dryad head, which were a lot bigger than i thought they would be - not thickness, but my long spiral is about 9cm long. I was also disappointed to discover I had accidentally (or possibly purposefully, but I don't recall doing it on purpose) downsized to 8.5mm when I thought i was at 10mm, and certainly used to be. Anyway, I re-stretched back up and now am back at 10mm, but think I will stay at the size a couple of weeks before changing jewellery again.
I also have a new (work) laptop. It is very black and shiny, and keeps getting covered in finger prints! It;s nice though. It seems to be quick. It runs vista which i am getting used to. And since I haven't put my documents on yet, nor my firefox extensions I really do feel like i am using someone else's laptop. Just picking up a shiny black creation which is much shinier and blacker than I would ever have selected I feel very much like i am borrowing someone else's computer! The other thing is that the trackpad is flat level with the rest of the bit where your hands go at the front! My previous laptop the trackpad was inlaid slightly. Well that looks very nice and sleek. It is a sleek looking machine in general (fujitsu amilo) but it also means I knock it and end up typing somewhere completely different which is a bit frustrating. I don't want to turn off tap the track pad cause i use that feature a lot. I just wish i didn't keep knocking it. The trackpad also seems to be a bit tempremental, but that may be my imagination. I'm sure I'll get used to it. I had the last one 4 years, so am probably stuck in a groove.
