Hello. My net is fast again! Woo for the second of the month. Anyway, I am sitting here next to my IPod and Selena Gomez on US Teen Vogue even though I only have a vague idea of who Selena Gomez actually is considering whether or not I should start this entry talking about tennis again. Oh well, Wimbledon only goes for two weeks and I'm sure
sweetrina is reading so here goes: I'm so very very happy that Tommy Haas finally knocked Lleyton Hewitt out, and I'm excited for the Haas/Federer showdown even if Fed will inevitably win. I have no idea who else will make it to the final though. I'm sad my boy Djokovic is out. Here is a sad face :( - sad face :(
Speaking of TV (well, kinda...the tennis is on tv!), as one or two of you may remember I noted a few weeks back that everyone is suddenly interested in Glee and that I thought we wouldn't be getting it here because, well, we don't know what glee clubs are here. Well, right after I said that I saw a preview for Glee on channel seven. So we're getting Glee. I don't know how long it will actually last considering it seems very American right down to the Journey, but we'll see. I'm looking forward to it now.
Also, the other day I saw
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
- I am going to keep this short (well, as short I ever keep anything) and dot-pointy because there was sooo much of this movie I didn't like lol. I think one of the issues was that I could not follow the plot of this film beyond the Transformers wanting that piece of metal back which may have been due to my own tiredness and thus I may be an idiot. My brother told me about all this Transformers mythology and the fact that there was none of it in this movie, or it wasn't explained correctly, plus all the scenes I found laughable equaled me zoning out numerous times. I feel like it doesn't really get good until the Transformers attack Egypt and even then i still zoned out. I think I am not a mindless action flick type of person.
- I think my issue with Megan Fox in this, besides some of the things she says in interviews, is the fact that she's so incredibly plastic. There was one scene wherein she stood in profile and I swear I could see where her cheek implants started. And her lips are crazy. And I'm pretty sure she wasn't born with that nose. There are moments wherein she does look kind of pretty, which is a shame because I think she does have a sort of natural beauty underneath all the work she appears to have had done. My issue with her is that whenever I see pics of her I just get this trashy kind of vibe, and not trashy in a good way. Is there such a thing as trashy in a good way? I shall answer myself: yes, there is, because that was the kind of vibe I got when Rachel McAdams was still with Ryan Gosling and she dyed her hair pink and he was wearing motorcycle jackets and they walked around like "yeah, we live in a trailer park, so what". Megan Fox is not that kind of trashy-awesome. (I feel terrible now. I hope I haven't offended the sisterhood or anything :( ).
- That said, Sam and Michaela are kind of cute. It's sort of a "I don't mind that you used to be a stripper and you don't mind that I used to be in jail" kind of thing but it is cute. (I don't know why I keep thinking Shia looks like he just got out of jail. I think it's because I've seen Disturbia where he's on house arrest). I liked the bit after the garage where she strips (heh) down to her little white dress and gets a bouquet of flowers and stands there waiting for him.
- I thought Sam's parents were funny but kind of unnecessary. As was the entire welcome to college scene with his mom eating the brownies. That said I hate that type of humor thus I am probably not the type of audience it is intended for.
- I feel bad for Isabel Lucas in this, only because her publicists or whoever are parading her around the place like this is her big breakthrough role but it really feels like she was hired purely because she's pretty and used for her athletic body, acing skills notwithstanding. I also have weird feminist issues with her being introduced as a sex object, used as a sex object, revealed to be an evil machine and then detonated.
- Far more concise, half-star review of this film
here that I ttoally agree with!
- All that said, this movie does have some really awesome special effects and explosions ala Michael "OMG DID YOU SEE HOW I JUST BLEW THAT THING UP" Bay. And Shia's dogs are really cute. Also Shia is cute too. I laughed when his hand got conveniently hurt halfway through seeing as we have not seen Shia's fingers on that hand in like a year. But in summary, I would say if you wanted to see some awesome explosions and fight scenes courtesy of evil machines, go see Terminator cause at least you get some consistency that way. It's always funny seeing these summer movies when it's winter here. That is the strangeness of things, I suppose, that during winter we get the summer popcorn flicks and in summer we get all the Oscar movies. Anyway, I'm still waiting for Public Enemies. I think I love Bale more than i should after the whole bale-out thing. I actually spent like half of Terminator wondering which scene it was the lighting guy walked through. I eventually decided it was the part where John Connor is leaving and is all I'LL BE BACK, and found out later that I was right. True story.
Also also, last weekend was Harry Potter 3, aka purple hoodie pumpkin movie, and I've decided that is without a doubt my favourite movie of the franchise so far. Alfonso Cuaron is awesome. It's also the most unintentionally hilarious one too. ("You tell those spiders Ron!", not to mention the Scabbers-is-Peter-Pettigrew reveal. That doesn't even make sense lol) And I still think that Ron/Hermione isn't properly established until the later movies. In this one I still get a lot of Harry/Hermione vibes, which is probably more due to Dan and Emma being close than the characters being close, but whatever. In some of the running for their lives scenes he is totally holding her hand.
Finally, happy belated CANADA DAY to my Canadian f-listers! I love you guys cause you get the good aspects of Americana without actually being American, plus we can celebrate/commiserate the Commonwealth together. YOU'VE GOT THE BEEEST OF BOTH WORLDS. (lol I'm sorry, I have recently decided that anything can be made a little more hilarious with a few well-placed bars of Cyrus. Ah the hilarity. Speaking of,
this RnB cover of The Climb is really pretty). And I'm off to listen to the last Evernote podcast cause I think they answered my question I asked them on Twitter. Stay dry Melbournites!
