Hello guys. So is anyone else really sick of swine flu already?! I know right, wonderfully positive way to start an entry, but seriously. I went into the city today to hand in my drama exam (thank you for the well-wishes on Twitter girled!) and I actually saw some people wearing masks. Later on I was walking down Swanston St and part of it was sectioned off by police and there were firetrucks and an ambulance there, and someone very loudly wondered "DO YOU THINK IT'S BECAUSE OF SWINE FLU? IS IT SWINE FLU? I THINK IT'S SWINE FLU!" lol. (It was actually just a chemical spill in an office block gas in Darryl Lea's air conditioning that was sucked out within like 15 minutes. I was not very concerned considering there was a firefighter texting on his phone right out front, and nobody running aorund yelling CODE BLUE CODE RED CODE WE'REALLGUNNADIE). I mean, maybe I am not reacting as I am supposed to be reacting to this, but out of the 100 cases we have in Victoria more than 85 of them have isolated been in the north, up Clifton Hill/Thornbury way, and there are obviously quarantine protocols in place and vaccine creation underway and I just really don't think the government is going to stand by and let us all die. I mean, our government can suck, but not that much, surely. What I'm just finding funny/strange is people that think they can catch it simply by being outside and are thus walking around with masks on just to go to the 711 lol. Of course now that I'm saying alll this I'll probably catch it and y'all can tell me so if I do. (I will be sure to blog my swine flu experience if I do catch it, which would probably just be "I'm bored!" repeatedly).
Also, I would really like to know why the natural disaster gods are picking on Victoria. We just stopped being on fire - hell, they haven't even finished investigating the fires via the Bushfire Royal Commission yet - and now we're all gettin' the swine. In winter. Melbourne is now being dubbed 'Australia's Swine Flu Capital". WHAT DID WE AND MEXICO DO TO YOU OH CRUEL GODS OF SICKNESS? *flails*
Can you tell I'm jaded? lol HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY CHAR. I should be happy, it's my birthday on the 7th! Turns out we're all going to some little place in Berwick on the Saturday night and Sunday is mine to do whatever with. Present-wise, I'm getting an Apple product. I already know what it is, so first person to guess gets something made by me in five seconds in MS Paint. More specific answers than just "IPod", cause that's cheating lol.
Anyway, stuff! Quick stuff, because I'm tired and there's a "which hated characters do you love?" post on ontd_lost and I want to see if any Kate lovers have come out of the woodwork.
- I saw Angels and Demons the other day and it was actually really good. It didn't really stick to the book and Vittoria was unfortunately nowhere near as kick-ass and feisty as she is on the page, but as a movie it's pretty amazing. The helicopter scene kind of takes your breath away. By the way, Ewan McGregor is a decent actor, but he should never try to do accents. He tried to do an Irish one in this, but half the time he just wound up sounding Scottish. Give it up, Ew!
- I don't blame holymackerelcat for not being around, but I'd really like to know what happened to the likes of Steph/after2am especially, as well as Noelle/babyxteeth. And perhaps jessamika too. (Or even sweetrina). My old CUian friends seem to have vanished. Say hi!
- Is anyone still watching Heroes? Should I pick it up again? I watched a little bit of it last night after not seeing it for three weeks and it actually wasn't that bad. Hayden's wig still looks kind of awful though. Assuming it is a wig. I've actually been thinking it's extensions added to her shorter hair but the way it connects to her scalp just looks unnatural, thus why I'm saying wig. I should not be letting a person's scalp annoy me so much. Anyway, I like the fact that Nikki or whoever she is now actually has a role to play and I can buy Nathan as the bad guy. I'm learning to love Sylar again too. I'm just wondering if this show can ever really bounce back from the horrible downturn it took earlier in season 3. Season 1 really was the glory days for this fandom.
- Speaking of, those of you who love Merlin and want me to love it too may get your magical wishes because Santiago Cabrera is premiering as Merlin in this week's ep and like hell I'm missing a chance to imagine my Isaac alive, so woo for that.
Finally: I posted icons for the first time in months here, and I'm in a general LIMS right now so there'll be more! And thank you to nestle and lily_268 for your comments. You lovely kids.(...No one has any requests do they? I'd welcome them because my net's on dial-up. I think I need a meme to do).
