- On the whole I saw a good bunch of movies this year, and I'm proud of the fact 95% of them I saw on discount Tuesday at the movies, where tickets are $10 for everyone as opposed to the usual $14 student/$17 adult. The only movies on here I can remember paying that full price for were "This Is It" for the MJ factor, and "Terminator Salvation" on my birthday.
- Some of these I also managed to see for free, thanks to my cinema's Member Club contests. The most stunning foreign/arthouse movies I saw this year such as 'Tulpan' and 'The Boys Are Back' were ones I saw for free. For 'Tulpan', a small Kazakstani movie, the director was there and did a Q&A session after the film. Bottom line, it's worth getting a Village member card if you're in Vic because their free screening contests aren't even contests. I have "won" every single time I've entered.
- I saw an average of 2.91, or let's just say 3, movies per month, or 75% of a movie each week. And I still spent far too much money.
- I saw my first IMAX movie this year thanks to a promotion where you could see "Night At The Museum 2" and get half-price entry to Melbourne Museum after (helped by the fact Melbourne's only IMAX screen is at Melbourne Museum in the first place). I was worried it would make me nauseous, and it kind of did during the ~epic museum showdown~ featuring a bit of handheld camera shake. I wouldn't want to see an action movie there, or even any movie over 90 minutes.
- I also rented my first movie from ITunes this year. It is very good for holidays, and I love the doomsday-esque 48 hour countdown to when the file will no longer work. That was also the only movie I rented all year, which is kind of amazing considering I used to rent 3 movies a week in high school.
- I didn't see a single movie alone at the cinema this year, which I suppose is good for me being social? I saw all of them with either my mum, my friend Heather, or both; a couple I actually watched with more than one person, including two with my family. I'M A LONER SO THIS IS A BIG DEAL K.
- Worst movie this year: If you look at all the ones I saw on TV this year you can see they're all pretty terrible (though okay, "The Wild" was cute). That said, I really do believe "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" was the worse, because it was really terrible with no redeeming factors. Even "Ice Princess" had more redeeming factors (ice skating, Michelle Kwan, Hayden).
- Best movie this year: "Avatar". No, I'm just kidding. I would say "Milk" considering I did see it this year, but theatrically it came out in the US in 2008. So you know what, I'm actually going to say "The Boys Are Back", which is a tiny British/Australian co-production starring Clive Owen that no one else will ever see but I adored from the very first frame.
