This last weekend was the Golden Gate Renaissance Faire in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, where
droxson and I had our vendor booth for Magical Fire Arts. We went in on Friday morning and after waiting about 25 minutes to find out where the booth was situated, we set up our new pavilion. We will occasionally still use the 10x10 pop-up for non-faire events, but now have a 10x20 full pavilion for our faire events.
bobbathehutt helped us with setup, so all the booth shelving and the pavilion were staked down and we wouldn't have to worry about wind.
The weather can only be described as heavy fog and very overcast. The fog was so thick it was almost light rain at points. After the heat in Pittsburg earlier in the week, I was very happy to have temperatures in the low 60s, upper 50s. While there were lines to get into the faire both days, sales were not very good. Most people were spending money on food and/or booze, but not buying much of the wares offered by the vendors. I spoke with many of the vendors over the course of the two days and almost all were crying the same "no one is buying" blues.
I did see many people I know and enjoyed talking with the attendees. I would not have missed meeting the woman with the SUV-sized stroller that rammed into my left shin. The ground was bumpy and filled with gopher holes, however if someone can't control their stroller, she/he should not be allowed to have one in public. I don't know what it is about people with strollers, but they all seem to find either my shins or my achilles tendons.
I also found a camouflaged gopher hole near the privies and did a ground kissing face plant. I didn't hurt anything more than my pride.
In my rush to finish a couple of pieces Saturday morning, I managed to grind down several layers of fingernail on the beds of 3 fingers. I didn't even feel it when I was using the lap-grinder, but now have paper-thin fingernails which are a bit tender. Band-aids have been helping but I think I'll have to go to a manicurist for acrylic floats to cover the ow-ees.
New Pavilion:
Danita is speaking with a re-enactor about a piece, while my sister looks on. We set up a market umbrella in front to cover Peggy (you can barely see her arm in the picture) while she did some wire wrapping. The cloth on the top of the pavilion is the vent cover which blew over from the other side.
New Glass - (Jeremy, tell me if you like these color combinations):
Spring - 6-inch Square Sushi Plate
Autumn - 6-inch Square Sushi Plate
Four Elements Candle Bridge - Water, Earth, Air & Fire
Finished 10-inch x 8-inch Sushi Plate - I haven't named it yet as I can't decide on a name. Suggestions?
