L had thought about riding the bus, but once he'd stepped onto it, he knew that he wouldn't be able to stay calm throughout the ride. It was cramped, and poorly ventilated, it smelled bad and people stared. Most of all, the windows were reflective. For L, the floor of the bus might as well have been made of molten hot lava; riding it was out of the question... especially when he was already stressed by the neighbor's boom box spewing brain-rattling heavy metal into the usually quiet street. The chords were messy, and the voices harsh and grating, ugly sounds and ugly words clawing at the inside of L's skull. Nowhere in the house was quiet, and the teenagers were not going to leave anytime soon. He had tried approaching them, and asking them to stop the music... but one of them had shoved him, and he'd been too rattled after that to pursue the matter. Holding a hand to his aching head, he walked towards the police station, knowing that Kurenai would not be done with work for some time, but that knowing she was nearby would be a great help to him.

The police station, fortunately, was fairly near the house, and L found it without too much difficulty. Walking in the double doors at the entrance, he took a seat in the spartan area by the front desk, hugging his knees to his chest. The secretary stared at him oddly, and asked him what he needed, but the heavy metal music was still drowning his thoughts. Since he wasn't hurting anything, she decided to let him alone.
