A wise man once said that karma was the law by which Fate judged you, and if you came up wanting bad things would happen to you. Considering the sheer amount of shit Kurenai had been going through lately she was starting to think in her past life she was a professional puppy kicker. She needed some good karma, and fast, and she also needed some sort of new adventure to get her mind off recent troubles. It was with these goals in mind that she found herself with a tupperware container filled with cookies, and a plastic bag from the convenience store on the corner brimming with various candies, leading Appa to meet someone whose name she never caught.
He was troubled, upset by a missing caretaker, and the shrink in Kurenai could tell he had a mental condition. From experience, she knew how to handle these situations, and regardless of the explanations she'd be making to Jean and Aang later she was more than willing to invite this person back to her house. He needed stability, safety, a good meal, and someone to look out for him and she was volunteering. She was prepared to do whatever it took to succeed with this young man where she couldn't with Emil.
As Kurenai paused to adjust her belongings, letting Appa sniff the area, she could see the corner of North Street up ahead. She could only hope that her first impression was right and that she had nothing to fear from this meeting. She had good people sense, but the way things had been going she wouldn't be surprised to have that backfire as well.
