The mid-day sun settled high in the sky as Aizen approached the podium and set down his notes. Smiling at the assembled people, he coughed quietly before taking a sip of water, obviously preparing to speak.
The small red lights on the video cameras turned on and soon enough Aizen's face and words were being broadcast into living rooms and on televisions across the state.
Giving a slight smile, he shifted his notecards and began to speak. "Hello and good afternoon. I'm sure many of you know why we are here, but just in case you don't this is just an update on where we as a city stand following the earthquake."
Pausing, he glanced up and caught the eye of his young intern, the adoration on her face enough to help him ignore the slight headache which was coming on. "I'm sure you've all seen construction crews and police officers out and about, working to help secure and rebuild the city, which is step one of our overall plan."
Putting a hand to his head he visibly swayed as he narrowed his eyes slightly. He was feeling odd, all of the sudden. Ignoring it, he continued. "Some of you have been through earthquakes before, for others this was your..."
His voice cut off as his complexion paled to a ghostly pallor, eyes rolling back in his head as he fell forward, collapsing. Everything seemed to go in slow motion as the cameras continued rolling.
