Is it naive to believe Mars can be inhabited by a small group of humans within the next 20 or 30 years, or is this achievable? Why or why not?
If course it is possible. At vast expense and massive risk an outpost could be set up and a constant stream of supply ships could ferry food water oxygen fuel building materials and replacement teams. It would be a prohibitively costly adventure and achieve what? Prove Mars is uninhabitable without support?
Mars is a barren freezing desert in a vacuum bathed in dangerous radiation. It's a 9 month journey away each way and will cost millions of dollars per kilo to supply. Even the journey is very risky.
Could that money and effort be better spent? Consider Earth, our natural home, facing climate chaos, species extinction , environmental catastrophe, killer pandemics and possible nuclear war. Perhaps we should put a bit more time, money and effort solving these problems?

I think it is high time to try something different.

On the contrary. Hardly any time money or effort has been spent trying to tackle these problems. If we don't start really effectively tackling these issues no spaceships will save us.

I think fight against global warming belongs to fighting against “Climate Chaos” - and it is impossible to read news without being force fed news about efforts to fight global warming.
I think monetary expences are in the trillion dollars territory. I didn’t try to compute accurately, but expences are definitely huge!!
In comparison flight to Mars looks cheap and reasonable.
