Глупости про Линукс.

Была так сказать дискуссия на Quora:

И я, как пользователь Линукс, вмешался. И мои комментарии удалили!!!

Поэтому решил сохранить для потомков.

Сначала исходная статья, по-моему несправедливо капают на Линукс, потом мой ответ.

Why isn't Linux competitive in the consumer's operating systems market in 2021?

Roberto Santocho, Linux Maintenance & Linux Security at Consultants (1992-present)Answered July 30

Q: Why isn't Linux competitive in the consumer's operating systems market in 2021?

A: Because Linux doesn't solve anything for the average desktop personal computer user

  • Linux is difficult, plain and simple
  • Linux gives most desktop personal computer users a huge headache when they find out that there have been 895 (and counting) Linux distributions to choose from
  • It is little relief to find out that only 200 are still supported because they still have to figure out which ones those are
  • Apps on Linux are low quality and can range from disappointing to non-existent
  • If a user wants an app that is not in their specific repository, the they could be facing a task that is anywhere from daunting to impossible, to get it
  • Linux support forums are notorious for being hostile to new users, often attacking and berating them for asking “newbie” questions, which of course should be the reason for the support forums to exist, which has chased away a huge number of potential new users

  • Linux is not even the lowest cost system, as the Linux fan boys love to erroneously claim, the actual fact is that the lowest cost computers cannot run Linux and will never run Linux because the Linux kernel developers will not write the necessary drivers for them (and no, you cannot build your own computer cheaper because you still can't get drivers, and the lowest remade computers that already come with Windows installed on them are still cheaper than anything that you can build)
  • Linux desktops are no where near as stable and reliable as Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS (no, Linux desktop is no where near as reliable as Linux in servers because Linux in servers is stripped down, minimal and does not run a desktop environment)
  • So Linux has no appeal to desktop personal computer users because it is a very poor choice for them

About distribution just use Linux Mint. It solves problems 2 3 4,

Linux is difficult - you mainly use Browser, it is the same, I cannot understand why you think so. Generally Linux Mint looks simpler than windows.

Low cost option - linux happily works on cheap computers, I think competitive on them with Windows.

Not stable - I doubt this, I often see windows user saying their computer getting slower. I don’t see this on linux.

Hostile forums - not so sure.

Apps on Linux are low quality - sometimes, for me mTorrent on windows is better somehow (((((, most apps (Chrome, Eclipse, Android studio, …) are the same. Some, like Libre Office, is good enough.

Windows died on my computer, and i just continue working and living on Linux without any urge to restore windows.

You fell into the trap!!!

All the Linux fan-boys have their favorite distribution that the insist is the best.

Then they have another one for beginners.

Then they have another one for power users.

Then they have one they need to use when they were working on a specific project so they had to switch distributions for a while to get access to the repository so they did not have to waste months trying to make the source code from another repository work for them because of all the library conflicts.

The Linux problems go on and on.

I know because I own a computer consulting company in Silicon Valley for over 40 years and we have been support Linux since 1992 and it really is annoying to have to hear those Linux users come crying to us every day with the same old problems that Liix users have had for too many years.

It really is not an acceptable operating system for normal desktop personal computer users, no matter what the Linux fan-boys claim.

Obviously it will never become a consumer operating system because it is stuck with a 1980s/1990s mindset. It just is not acceptable at all.
