“Nothing Short of Perfect”

Am I being unclear or am I just wrong?
Am I still everything to you or your rebound?
These days pass by so quickly
With every comment stuck in my head
I’ll clench my fists no more
And hang up the reigns
I will be your friend if you will be mine first
You left me on that dark road
No answer all night from that payphone
By the time you started to care
I’ll be half way to Ohio or someplace like that
Nothing short of perfect

I’ll walk the whole way
Just to let you know that everything is okay

Just to be with you for one day

Or everything besides that
Running through the memories of sitting in your driveway
How could it be so long ago?
I held out my hand

How surreal yet painstaking that last night was
Seeing you drive off in the distance
I knew it would be the last time I saw you
As we shared our last kiss
Such a genuine moment
I can still taste your lips
