So today President Obama announced his nominee for Supreme Court Justice, he nominated Sonia Sotomayor a hispanic woman, and because she has said this in the past ...
"Our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice [Sandra Day] O'Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases. I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement," she added. "First, as Professor [Martha] Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
A bunch of GOPers are calling her a reverse racist! (link1, link2) Won't someone think of the poor oppressed White men who barely have any say in our nations laws and politics are continually discriminated against and held back because of their gender and paid less for it! Oh wait ...
I mean that quote makes sense if you're not a fucking nut bag! But some of these people think its just ludicrous to say that women who have lived through discrimination and having men decide upon their bodies and choices for hundreds of years might be better equipped to make decisions on certain issues. It was the same type of paranoia exhibited during the election, its like some White people seriously feared they would be enslaved or something because a member of a minority was going to be the most powerful man in the country and would enact laws to get back at them for this country's history of racism and slavery. So now that a minority woman could ascend to one of the highest offices in this country they accuse her of reverse racism, she'll use her vagina to get back at those oppressive White men you guyz ://// And omg why does she think she can make better decisions on some issues due to her experiences rather than White males? This is just White male privilege at its finest! Diversity is a growing trend in this country, Hispanics are a powerful and growing minority and soon they will be the majority in some districts in this country, the people need to come to terms with this and I applaud the President's decision to give the Supreme Court another potential female member and its first ever Hispanic member!
