This post on fanficrants about a terrible Doctor Who/Twilight crossover reminded me that a while back I actually had a Doctor Who/Twilight dreamIn the dream, Nine and Rose landed in whaterever town Twilight takes place in and run into the werewolves. Random Werewolf #1 immediately imprinted on Rose and started following her and the Doctor around, until they ( Read more... )

That is amazing and epic and I would actually read the Twilight series if it was like that.

Oh! I forgot about the telepathic vampire matter-of-factly calling the Doctor "Destroyer" because, as she put it, "it fits better than that other name you pretend to have." Neither he or Rose were happy about that one. Mostly I remember Rose being wigged out about the imprinting and wondering why no one else thought this was a problem. So, yeah. I don't even know.

And actually, one could write a pretty decent DW/TW story. Bella and Rose would have a lot to talk about; both had their lives turned upside down when they fell for inhuman, nigh-immortal men with tendencies for mood swings and clinginess, although at least Rose got a few years and at least two boyfriends under her belt before meeting the Doctor.

At some point it was revealed that the vampires and werewolves were both actually alien races who'd been stranded on Earth for so long that they'd started confusing themselves with vampire and werewolf myths, then I woke up, wondering WTF was wrong with my brain.

It's the same thing wrong with my brain, because that's the explanation the Doctor was using for the same things in my crossover with Supernatural. Thing is, you CAN cross just about anything with anything else and still keep it in character ( ... )

I have a half-finished fic languishing on my hard drive with a similar thing (so, um, if I do ever finish it don't think I'm stealing:) It's the natural hand-wave when you're writing DW. It's always aliens. That's why I liked that S1 Torchwood episode with the fairies and how they were all, "Yeah, we're really fey. Did with that, bitches."

These people haven't read well-done crossovers, it seems. And it doesn't surprise me. I've tried to find them over the years and haven't come away with many I'd recommend.

So many people just do it so badly. And it's really not that hard to find some connection, especially with something like Doctor Who that's just made for crossovers. Using Supernatural as an example again, you just make one of the things they're hunting an alien and you're in business, or maybe decide the Trickster is a renegade Time Lord or a Q. Anything that gives the ( ... )

Oh, I wouldn't have thought you were stealing because it's the exact same hook they use on the actual show anyway. It's just with the fic I did, there was a curveball thrown near the end that the supernatural actually exists and then the Doctor's in the confused state Dean was for a majority of the fic. I remember when I was posting it up, people kept commenting, "IT CAN'T ALL BE ALIENS!" I was never saying it was, THE DOCTOR WAS. He has his view of the universe, Dean has his, they collided which is what the basis of the story was. Evidences to support both viewpoints were established before the last chapter. Successful crossover completed. I hope. :D
