"Finishing the book is a relief. I can't think of anyone who could know how I felt. Actually finishing it was the most remarkable feeling I've ever had... [I felt] euphoria, devastated, when I finished one chapter near the end I absolutely howled, it had been planned for so long ( Read more... )

The last page first? No way!!! I haven't waited years and years and avoided spoiler like the plaque just to spoil myself the second I get my hands on the book.

Buuut I know a certain lady who will do exactly that. My best friend Ven does always read the last page first.

To me JKR's comment sounds more like "I howled in relief".

And hey, how many dark fics have you read to date? Can it really be worse than one of them? I'm going to tread the book like just another possibility and if I don't like what I read I'm going to blend it out.

I'm still in 2 minds about the last page 1st thing, which is why I posted this; I need other opinions... I don't think I can make this decision on my own *bites nails*

That's some good thinking about the 'howl' thing, I'd never thought to look at it like that and it certainly puts my mind at rest... I think I'll be in Egypt for a little longer then :). Or not, as the case may be: there could still be a happily ever after, we'll know in 14 days, eh?

Oh, and as for the darkfics: NO! I cried so much after reading If You Are Prepared (4 or 5 years ago) my friends wanted to have me committed! This'll be so much worse because it's CANON! It's the real thing. I don't care how good the AU fanfics are, canon is canon to me and JKR is still the best there is. She is THE final word in the Potterverse in my opinion. That's why I'm so worked up!

I stopped seeing JKR as the final word sometime around book 5. She has great ideas, heck she created us a wonderful world to live and play in, but she obviously doesn't know her own characters. She gives them minimal background - sometimes not even that - and makes them behave in ways one cannot understand. Have you ever read "A nick in time"? That's believable character development. Harry in a cupboard, unloved, uncared for and that did not leave any emotional scars? At all? The inner conflicts of Snape. Does being a Death Eater make you a bad dad? Is the light side really good? Azkaban. House-elves. Dementors. JRK gave us a thousand interesting questions but answered nearly none of them. Fandom did.

Yes, A Nick in Time's brilliant, isn't it ( ... )

Yeah, all things I've considered but I don't think it's enough. It's all so shallow.

I would love to discuss it with you but I have a important exam on Tuesday and need to learn my stuff. :)

OMG! I've just realised how rude I've been! Or come across anyway. Your exam's today? Well, good luck! I wish you the very best!
And I really DO enjoy discussing Harry Potter; in any way. Debating is one of my favourite pastimes and debating about HP makes me so happy I get giddy! So thank you for disagreeing with me, basically :p! And the very best of luck for this important exam!

You haven't been rude it was all in good fun. We're all HP maniacs here and love discussing our subject ;)

(Btw - I passed but now I have to learn for my Spanish exams tomorrow. Bah.)

Congrats! Oh, and how'd you go in Spanish?
Thanks for understanding! I was re-reading my comments and I realised that if I'd been on the receiving end of my replys to you I might have been a bit offended! So I'm glad you know where I'm coming from :) *glomps*

Spanish went fairly well, it was a team effort whereas my part of the work was to copy the answers of my neighbor. ;) I like languages, you know, I just wish I could cut the part where I have to learn them.

I repeat: HP-maniacs. I live for discussions no matter whether they are soft or hard. If anything ever offends me (and it needs a lot to make me angry) I have no problems whatsoever to Avada Kedavra the offending party six ways from sundaylet them know. ^___^ We had a brief but wonderful dialog and I'm sure after book 7 we will continue it with a bunch of new ideas, questions and complains. *reglomps*

*G* I'm glad your test went well... I'm also glad your neighbor's test went well :).
I know exacly what you mean about languags: Deutsch is too similar to English and I was bad at spelling before... now I'm not even sure I can spell my own name!

LOL Welcome to my world. I need forever to write a comment because I'm never sure how to say something and if it is said right and whatever. I'm just waiting for that day where I want to say something totally harmless and the person at the receiving end's going berserk because I mortally offended them by writing utter sh*t.

You learned german in school? Or - like most I know - by hearing Rammstein? *lolz*

mirrorwakes July 14 2007, 00:15:32 UTC
No, not in school -- German was my 1st language (Mum's German) but when I went to school I had to actually learn English so I forgot it all! Now I'm doing a correspondence course.
I'm pretty sure I've ALREADY insulted a few people in Deutsch, I just have to pretend that it's intentional and they go away :p!

And how far are you? Fancy a HP discussion in german?

Ich bin ja echt der Meinung, dass die ganze Spannung, die sich zwischen Snape und Harry aufgebaut hat irgendwann mal raus muss. Das kann doch nur Canon sein, dass die beiden im Bett landen. Oder wo auch immer.

Just testing. ;)

I'm doing a beginner's course.
Christ! Um this is without a dictionary so forgive my translation (I'll try to translate 1st and THEN I'll try to reply in a way that makes sense :p)

'I believe that the tension b/w Snape and Harry must soon come to a climax. It's only Canon that the two land in bed (?) or the nearest available surface(?)

Bingo! Hey, you're good. German is one of the hardest languages to learn so you can be far more proud of yourself if you do as if a german learns english.

So, you agree? Especially after the delicious Harry-dragging in the movie?
