Meh!

Right. I feel kind of drawn towards Cambridge. The English course sounds uber-awesome. But since I'm not from the UK, I have to be in the top 1 or 2 percent of my year. My grades are good, but not THAT good, and I will be graduating with Halla the Black. I suppose this means that I have to work a lot harder.

It's kind of funny to compare the attitudes of my parents, my mum being extremely pessimistic and my dad being extremely optimistic.

Mum: "You shouldn't set your goals so high, you'll just end up being disappointed. I think you should reconsider your plans, take a year in the University of Iceland before you go abroad."

Dad: "It's great that you're going to Cambridge. It's not far from Peterborough, you know, so you could visit the Toutais."
Me: "But it's not certain that I'll be admitted to Cambridge. I have to be in the top 2 percent of my year."
Dad: "Yeah, that's pretty unfair... Hey, do you know what the food's going to be like at Cambridge?"

At least Dad is supportive, while you might call Mum the voice of reason. I'm taking the golden middle way, which means that I'm optimistic about actually going to England next year, but I fully realize that I might have to settle for a slightly less prestigious university than Cambridge.
