I love the gay parade! And I think it's an important step in the fight towards equal rights. It's not about saying 'Look at us! We're different!', it's more 'Look at us! We exist! And we're happy!' :P

It won't be necessary in the "fight for our rights" sense, but then again, we still celebrate Independence Day when we've been independent for fifty years, so I think that in a truly equal world the Gay Pride parade will just end up being an "oh hey, an excuse for a parade!" day.
The reason Gay Pride Parades are important is because being gay is one of those things you can (conceivably) hide. And gay people get a lot of "I'm okay with gay people, as long as they don't talk about it or do anything gay in public and just generally act like straight people when they're not locked in their rooms with the blinds closed." So, you know, we're free to be gay as long as we... hide it. That's no freedom at all. We live in a heteronormative society. If you want a straight pride parade you just need to go outside on any day of the year.
