I have such a love-hate relationship with my life (not the act of living, but the ways I choose to spend my time)--and I'm in a place where I'm really, really happy right now.

E is out of town, and I'd forgotten how much I love living alone. I miss him like crazy and couldn't sleep well at first--but it is so beautiful to spend time alone. I've eaten nothing but vegetable stir fry for dinner the past two nights, and tonight I had ice cream and chocolate truffles. Yesterday I went with my biology class to Mount Rainier--and since it wasn't at all a strenuous hike (contrary to promises!), I went for a run along the creek when we got home. This morning I set my alarm and woke up early, then took myself to a coffee shop to study for my biology exam before going wine/beer tasting with some friends' out-of-town guests. I bought insecticide soap and sprayed my zucchini and lettuce for aphids (while chanting 'Die, motherf*ckers!' in my head). Now I'm listening to French news and trying to memorize all the main kingdoms of life (and the difference between undulating and whirling flagella), and am just so stinkin' content!

It feels like those nights in Korea when I'd end up staying in a motel alone, and no one knew where I was or what I was doing and it was just so delicious. Things at work are still not terribly settled, but I'm taking control little by little. It also helps that I bought plane tickets to join a people-centered 2-week tour to India in February--so I feel less trapped.

Things will turn out ok, somehow or another.

Back to flagella!
