Day 11: A show that disappointed you

I'm going with Chuck for this one. I know lots of people are huge fans but really, I couldn't stick with it in the long run. I found a lot of it funny and quirky and I liked a lot of the cast. But after watching a season and a half, I got really bored with the premise. No one really got a chance to develop as a character and lots of opportunities for character development were dropped entirely. I know they've changed the premise a bit so there's been some movement on that front but I honestly have no desire to tune back in.

I think we're meant to be attached to the idea of Chuck and Sarah but it was all textual instead of subtextual or organic-feeling. I felt like the script was telling me, "Look UST, look!" instead of UST being created by the actors or the situation. And as much as I want to like Sarah as a kick-ass female character, I feel like she sorta fails and is instead a bit of a fanboy's dream come true rather than a real genuine character. She was more interesting whenever she had to interact with Bryce but I much preferred her and Chuck when they didn't give each other oogly eyes.

So, yes. Chuck started out strong. I liked the geek shout outs and the juxtaposition of Chuck's normal life with Bryce's insane spy one. I liked Chuck's twenty-something not-sure-what-I-want-to-do-with-my-life storyline with the twist of giving him an out from deciding by making him the Intersect. I love Adam Baldwin. I just felt like I was waiting for the show to go somewhere with its concept and it just never really got there.
