Day Four: Your favorite show ever

Firefly! This show nears perfection. It almost feels cliche to say it at this point. But allow me to gush over the show I can pick up at any time and love it as much as the first time I watched it.

First, the cast... Let's just say they are pretty. And talented. And lovely.

Some more of the pretty

This show has some beautiful cinematography. They use a lot of hand held and they use it well. And, the directors for this show are top notch. My favorite is the episode Out of Gas where three separate stories are interwoven and told clearly and beautifully and by the time you end the episode you understanding of the characters is completely enriched. As any episode should be.

It's also a funny show with all sorts of humor. Smart humor, whip-smart banter (as one would expect from Joss Whedon) and some slapstick. I love this scene, above.

I love the lighting in this show. Absolutely love it. They used older lenses to get the lens flare effects and there was a lot of practical lighting in this show. The set had a lot of built in lights and they used small lights on tables to light scenes like the one below. I loved the lens flares it created and it wasn't overdone or overly obtrusive. It's a particular style but it's one I really got a kick out of.

This cast gets along so well and it really comes through in their amazing chemistry. I love ensemble shows in general and this one is one of my favorites.

This show also has amazing guest stars, including the ever-popular Mark Sheppard as Badger. My favorite though is Yo-Saff-Bridge played by the amazing Christina Hendricks pre-Mad Men days.

She gets two episodes and they're two of my favorites. She has an adorable smile and her charm is infectious. She's a seductress and she's good at it. She plays the whole crew and she usually wins. Usually. She's a delight.

Another favorite of mine is the episode called Objects in Space. The opening scene is one of my favorite teasers in television. We get to see how River sees.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend checking it out. Just buy it on DVD. It's not that expensive and you can get through the whole show and the movie in a weekend. There's a reason the Browncoats are still loyal!
