The 8 Things that Make Me Happy! (Day Five!)

Dec 14, 2008 14:59

Konnichiwa, minnasan, I hope everyone out there in Cyberland is doing well! Well, we survived our first massive snowstorm out here in South Dakota, however, it's -11 degrees Farenheit with an even colder windchill.

So, Mum and I decided to do all our Christmas candymaking and baking today. In honor of that, I thought for my fifth day of things that make me happy, I'd share a family recipe with everyone!

An interesting story about this recipe. My grandmother passed away a couple years ago. One of the things that I inherited was her old recipe box. Each year, during Christmas, I try to find a recipe that perhaps hasn't been used in a long time or never at all. This year, I found one for something called "Honeycomb Walnuts." When I showed it to my mum, her face really lit up. She told me she hadn't had them since she was ten years old. So, I went ahead and made them. They're so good that I had to share them with everyone! I've included metric measuring along with the U.S. measurements for my friends who live in outside to the continental states. I hope you all enjoy!

HONEYCOMB WALNUTS

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 cups/355 ml. White Sugar
1/4 cup/59 ml. Honey
1/2 cup/118 ml. Water
3 cups/710 ml. Walnut Meats
1/2 tsp./2.5 ml. Vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS:

Boil sugar, honey and water to Soft Ball level on candy thermometer. (235 degrees Farenheit or 113 degrees Celcius.) Remove and add vanilla. Pour over nuts. Stir until it becomes thick and creamy. Pour mixture on waxed paper laid on cookie sheet. Let cool and break apart and enjoy!

It's really easy to do and they taste so good! =^^=V Ja ne for now!
