Konbanwa, minnasan, I hope everyone out there in Cyberland is doing well! It's been a very cold day today and I'm still recovering from my 24 hour 'bout of the stomach flu. (In least it was kind enough to wait until I was finished with my work week before striking me down. =^^=;;) Never fear though, I am feeling much better if not a little tired still.
To my NaNo friends, Gambette Yo! I believe in all you guys and I know you'll do your best!

A BRIEF HISTORY ON STANDAGE:
Captain Will Standage is known for his continual and methodical control of the skies over London and the surrounding Britannia colonies. He has a reputation as being one of the most elusive air pirates that the country has ever seen.
Standage controls the airship, "The Trapped Sparrow," the sixth version of the vessel. The other five met many fates, including being shot down, being bombed and one very unfortunate event involving the Eiffel Tower that Standage would rather forget. Because of this, he's become rather passionate about his ship and has a slight obsessive attachment to it.
Appearance wise, Standage is a very small person who stands much taller because of his platform boots. He wears clothing stereotypical of most air pirates, though his jacket has a definitive French flair than most. Standage has a red lensed eye patch over his right eye. Underneath it is a vibrant blue mechanical eye. He is quick to say that he lost it in a card game, but the real truth about the missing eye is unknown. What sets him apart from others is the goggles that sit on his aviator cap. The flip red lensed goggles are usually only given to Captains of the Eagle's Flight Brigade, an elite Military Aviation group that fights for Britannia. Some say that Standage killed one of the captains and kept the goggles as a souvenir.
Standage as a person is a bit of a conundrum. He is generally good humored if not a bit tipsy. He has a taste for hard liquor and something called "Smoke," a kind of inhaled drug similar to the popular opium but with a much stronger kick. He is as laid back as First Mate is tough. He often doesn't seem too concerned with what actually occurs on the Trapped Sparrow, just as long as the vessel stays skyward. He is also a bit of a Ladies and Gents Man, but seems to perpetually lose Cabin Boys, though he's never quite sure how.
However, underneath that calm and humorous facade lies a much darker and vicious tactician. Those who've been on the Trapped Sparrow long enough or have known Standage for years will attest to his surprisingly cruel nature. He is not afraid to use his own crew to barter or bribe to get what he wants. Unfortunately, the new engineer Berdi finds this out first hand. He also doesn't go into battle unprepared but has been known to ensure that there are no survivors after they strike an enemy ship. The airship the crew has the most run-ins with is a rival mercenary ship called "The Flying Leviathan."
Standage's weapon of choice is called a "Thermal Pistol." The weapon uses thermal heat that moves through ventilated tubes on both sides of the gun. The top is equipped with a temperature gauge. The gun is built similar to a six shooter. After six shots, the thermal heat gauge spins and then the gun has to cool down before it can be used again, similar to a kind of reload. However, it takes almost an hour to get back to the appropriate temperature.
Because of that, Standage is more of a defensive fighter, relying on his rapid speed to get him out of situations. He also wears something called "Bracers" on his arms. These allow him to lift very heavy objects with little problem. Standage is also more of a hand to hand combat person when in tight situations. He has a very powerful right hook that the crew has nicknamed "The Blackout" because of how hard he can strike with it. He's only used it visibly twice since taking on the Trapped Sparrow.
Standage's relationships with the crew vary. He tries to treat everyone with a level of respect. He has a very unique bond with the Scotsman, a strange man who just seems to live on the ship and is always around just when you need him. He also is very close with First Mate, though the two bicker quite avidly, they also share quarters together, spreading rumors about their "friendship." Finally, Standage adores their new addition, Berdi, a newsie he made into their engineer. He finds her general sweet nature a breath of fresh air.
Little is actually known though about Standage's past previous to the first incarnation of the Trapped Sparrow. He was just simply "there" in the skies above London one day and never left. The only two who know much about the him are First Mate and the Scotsman, and even their information is limited.
SPOILER! YOUNG STANDAGE:
Will Standage was born to an English Admiral and an Egyptian Adventuress in Liverpool, England. His father was killed shortly after his birth and his mother took him back to her homeland in Cairo where he was educated for years by a private British tutor.
Standage comes from a long line of military men, including the famous Captain Will Standage of the Second Napoleonic Wars, of which he was named after.
Standage joined the Royal Air Guard when he was 18 and scored at the top of his class. He went on to attend the Academy and was assigned as Captain over the Eagle's Flight Brigade, the elite group who worked on exclusive and dangerous missions provided by Britannia.
He was successful at following a number of rogue time bandits through slip streams and he and his team got a reputation for being able to accomplish any assignment given to them.
The situation changed when Standage met his soul mate, a physician who worked for a rival faction battling for control over some of Britannia’s colonies. There was a "leak" among the Brigade and an unknown person sent information back to the Aviation League, indicating that Standage was carrying on an illicit affair with the enemy.
When brought to trial, Standage was shocked to find they had also brought the physician. When questioned, Standage was open about his relationship. The courts ordered his companion be put to death by Standage's own hand. Instead, Standage pulled out his own eye in front of everyone, citing the old adage of an "eye for an eye," meaning that he gave up his rights in exchange for the physician freedom.
That was not the case, they mercilessly executed his companion in front of him and then imprisoned him. He never let go of the googles that connected him directly to the Eagle's Flight Brigade though. He broke out two years later and headed for the air fields where he boarded the first vessel that would let him on, an airship called "The Trapped Sparrow."
He never looked back.
