FIC: Like Blood to Water (Chapter Four)

Jun 11, 2009 18:30

Konbanwa, minnasan, I hope everyone out there in Cyberland is doing well! I had a pretty busy day today. It was Mum and Pop's Anniversary today! So, I sent them out to have a nice little "date" and I stayed home to write and work on some artwork.

Now, for the next chapter of "Like Blood to Water." This chapter is actually pretty angsty and it's just going to get that much more complex. When reading the chapter, everyone will understand. Also, the HanHae has evolved into the SiHanHae because of a change in my storyline structure. This will make sense how it will work into the 2U relationship. But for now, I hope everyone enjoys the new chapter and ja ne! =~.^=V

CHAPTER FOUR: Passing Through Shadows and Flowers

"Yoochun? Yoochun?!"

Light slowly crept between the young man's tightly clenched eyes. The nearly overpowering pain in his head had relented. Carefully, he opened his eyes to look up at a familiar face. Changmin was gazing down at him, his image etched with worry.

"Changmin?" Yoochun managed to croak.

"Are you okay?"

"I... I think so. What happened?"

"I was just going to ask you the same thing."

"What?"

Yoochun began to sit up and halted when the world started to spin. He pushed down the rising nausea until his equilibrium returned. The singer drew in his breath slowly before focusing on the taller band member.

"I remember... I remember that I was practicing sword fighting with Yunho. Then... Then it all gets kind of blurry. All I recall is that Yunho was telling me he was sorry and he went running out of the gym."

"Then you definitely missed a major part." Changmin replied.

"What do you mean?"

"Jaejoong and Junsu sent me down to grab you both for dinner. When I got down here you were holding your head and screaming. I thought maybe you were having a seizure or something. I texted Jaejoong and he called the doctor. He's on his way to see you. Junsu came down here and left a few moments ago. He said if you woke up to make sure you didn't move too much."

Yoochun's eyebrows knit together. He tried to focus on what had occurred. He could only recall the briefest moment of Yunho trapping him with his sword from behind. A sensation suddenly slid up his spine. His breath came out in a slow, shaky exhale. Yoochun wet his lips and almost purred. Two of his long fingers drug down his throat before his hand flattened over his chest. The steady beat of his heart increased in speed. He could feel the thrum through his fingertips.

"Yoochun?"

Changmin's voice turned Yoochun's head. The youth moved back a little. The elder looked somehow foreign. His expression was almost ghost like and strangely distant. The younger man suddenly felt as if he was staring at a person from a completely different time.

"Changmin!" Junsu called from down the hallway. "Jaejoong is bringing the doctor! Is Yoochun awake?"

"Y-y-yes, he is!" Changmin stuttered. The singer finally tore his eyes away from Yoochun's heated gaze, wondering where such an odd thought would have come from.

"YOOCHUN!"

Whatever moment had trapped the soft spoken man was broken upon hearing Jaejoong's voice. His attention turned to the doorway. Jaejoong was with the doctor, Junsu standing behind him.

"Thank heavens, you're okay!"

"Yeah, I just got light headed, I guess." Yoochun replied sheepishly.

"Like hell that was light headed. Changmin said you were holding your head and screaming." Junsu retorted.

"I don't remember doing that." he confessed.

"Well, you look better already." Jaejoong returned.

"Thanks, I'm sorry to worry... Where's Yunho?!" Yoochun quickly asked.

"I've been trying to call him for about fifteen minutes." Changmin answered, looking much more relaxed. "But he's not picking up his cell phone."

The doctor interrupted the conversation, moving into the practice room.

"I will look over Mr. Park. For the patient's privacy, I will have to ask everyone to leave once again. I assure you that he's in very good hands."

The trio nodded. As Changmin went to stand, Yoochun caught his hand.

"Minnie, keep trying to find Yunho. I can't help but think I had something to do with him running. I don't know if I hurt him, but I think I might have done something terrible."

"We'll keep trying, Chunnie." Jaejoong assured his friend. "For now, you need to listen to whatever the doctor is telling you, okay?"

"Okay. I'm sorry, guys."

"No more apologies!" the oldest member abruptly stated. "When you get the green light, come upstairs and I'll feed you some soup."

Yoochun nodded as Jaejoong shooed Changmin and Junsu out of the gym. The doctor gave a small smile before simply sitting down on the floor in front of Yoochun. The older man opened his bag and drew out a stethescope. He placed it to Yoochun's chest, listening intently. After a moment, he drew back. Yoochun saw the doctor's expression change slightly. The gentleman seemed to be working through something in his mind. He then reached back into his bag and drew out a clipboard with some papers attached.

"Mr. Park, may I see the arm that I took your blood out of?"

Yoochun nodded and wondered if his eyes looked as puzzled as he felt. He held out his arm. The doctor observed the small puncture wound. The simple movement had blood welling out of the tiny opening and starting to create a thin, red line down Yoochun's forearm.

"Have you always bled like this, Mr. Park?" the doctor questioned.

"No. I mean, not that I can recall."

The doctor made a sound of agreement.

"You can lower your arm. Thank you."

"Doctor?"

"May I ask you a somewhat personal question from a practitioner to a patient? You have the right to refuse to answer."

"All right." Yoochun answered softly.

"Are you currently or have you ever been involved intimately with anyone of Dark descent?"

Yoochun blinked twice as the question attempted to sink through his jumbled thoughts.

"Do you mean my friend Yunho?"

The doctor gave a curt nod.

"Intimate?"

"Perhaps I need to rephrase the question. Have you ever allowed your bandmate to take blood freely from you?"

"NO!" Yoochun almost shouted. He blushed when the doctor held up his hand to calm him.

"Don't worry, Mr. Park, I'm not trying to pass judgement. It's just that your test results came back from our lab early this morning. Your iron count is unusually low and your puncture wound is bleeding more than usual."

"Am I sick?" Yoochun questioned nervously.

"No, actually you're quite healthy in all other aspects. The reason I had to ask you is that I've seen patients periodically over the years who've allowed Darks to drink from them. The result is a low iron count as well as the blood's inability to quagulate as well as it should. Both can be treated with supplements. However..."

"However?"

"However, as you do work in close quarters with a Dark, your newfound bleeding could create a problem. I am a firm believer that no matter how good the vitamins and inhibitors are, vampires are like humans. They will still need to feed. You are now a prime choice."

"Hey now, just because Yunho went running out of here doesn't mean that he did anything bad to me."

"I'm not saying anything in that matter, Mr. Park..."

"No, what you are saying is that one of my best friend's is going to jump on me and suck me dry because I have a little problem with bleeding."

"That's not what I'm saying either..." the doctor tried to defend himself.

Yoochun suddenly sprang to his feet. The doctor stood rapidly. The young man seemed to be eminating an unseen amount of power. His bangs fell in front of his eyes and his whole appearance changed in a moment from someone who was youthful and bright to a brooding, melancholy force.

"You will not take my lord from me." Yoochun said in a deep, soft voice. "You will not seperate us again, do you understand?"

The doctor nodded rapidly. He fumbled with his hands for his bag. He finally grabbed the object and backed slowly out of the door. Yoochun remained where he was standing. His expression was cool as the man rapidly fled down the hallway. After the doctor was gone, Yoochun's shoulders relaxed. He paused as his breathing slowed. His forehead crinkled for a moment. He had been talking to the doctor about his low iron count and his bleeding. The doctor had warned him then about working with Yunho. He recalled getting irritated with the man and standing. Everything after that was blurry to him.

"What is happening to me?" Yoochun questioned himself. "I'm not going to say anything to the others for now. I've already freaked them out enough today."

The young man sighed softly as he made his way out of the gym and down the hallway. He had no idea if the doctor had left or not. He felt guilty for some odd reason. He walked up the stairs slowly and then slipped into the main room. Jaejoong was busy boiling the soup in the kitchenette.

"Hey, how are you feeling?"

"Fuzzy. Did the doctor come and see you?"

"Hmm? Oh yes, he said that you were feeling still a little out of sorts and to just keep an eye on you. He was in a major hurry."

"Yah..." Yoochun murmured.

"Hungry?"

"Actually, I'm starved."

Yoochun pulled up a barstool as Jaejoong poured a bowl of hot soup. He let the heat waft up and slide across his face. The singer picked up his spoon. He noticed the blood that had partially dried to his arm from his tiny hole. The younger man looked up to see that Jaejoong had already slipped out of the kitchen. Yoochun tilted his head curiously. Slowly, he raised his arm up to his lips. His tongue slipped out. The tip almost grazed across the maroon but something stopped him. He rapidly shook his head and quickly grabbed his spoon. He sipped the chicken flavored stock, feeling the warmth slide down his throat.

"Is this how Yunho feels when he drinks?" he distantly wondered.

*****

Yunho jumped from rooftop to rooftop. His feet wouldn't carry him fast enough as the night sky blurred by his head. He could smell Yoochun on his clothes. He could still taste the salty hint of the young singer's flesh on the tip of his tongue. He could still feel the perfect beat of Yoochun's heart against his palm. The rain was not cleansing him as he would have liked.

The vampire dropped down off the next rooftop. He made a splash as he feet struck a forming puddle from the storm. He could feel his phone vibrate once again. He chose to ignore it as he continued to dart through the cement jungle of Seoul. His form melted into oncoming shadows as he entered a nearby park.

Yunho grabbed a tree branch and flipped himself upwards into the lush leaves. He perched himself on the highest point and watched as nameless faces and people chatted and complained on the wet sidewalk just below him.

He had almost killed Yoochun.

The Dark gripped his face with his hands, trying to block out the image. Even behind his closed eyes he could see the moment vividly. When he had fled, he had done his best to try and fog Yoochun's memory. It was an old trick for his kind but still a useful one. As he ran, he could hear Yoochun screaming. He had panicked and didn't dare turn around and look back.

Yunho's cell phone jingled for the twelfth time. The older man finally drew it out of his pocket. He recognized the number as Changmin's. Sighing softly, he flipped open the device.

"Yunho." He hoped he sounded a lot more calm then he felt.

"HYUNG, YOU JERK!" Changmin shouted on the other end.

"Changmin!" Yunho returned as he pulled the phone away from his ear.

"WE'VE BEEN WORRIED SICK!!!"

"Minnie, could you please quit shouting?!" Yunho replied loudly.

There were a couple deep breaths on the other end before Changmin's voice came to life again.

"Where are you?! We've been trying to text you and call you over and over again. You know how worried everyone is? Especially Yoochun!"

"Yoochun. Changmin, is he okay?"

"Yah, but it was really awful of you just to leave him like that. He was in a lot of pain."

"Is he okay now?"

"He's eating some soup Jaejoong made him downstairs. The doctor came and saw him and everything. I can't believe you just ran like that."

"I... I can't get into that right now."

"Is this one of those Dark things that I'm not supposed to know about until I'm older? Because I'm alot older now, Yunho."

"No, it's nothing like that, Changmin."

"Well, then get your light sensitive butt back here and say you're sorry to Yoochun, okay?"

"You're a bossy brat, you know that?"

"Yes, and you adore me just the same. Just please come back? We're really worried about you too." Changmin relented on the other line.

"Give me about an hour. I need to clear my head."

"Okay."

"And Changmin?"

"Yes?"

"Thanks for biting my head off. I needed it."

"Any time, hyung."

The phone clicked quietly on the other end. Yunho paused for a moment before he jumped off the branch of the tree. He began to walk silently on the pathway through the park. His thoughts immediately drifted to Yoochun. Almost in reaction, his fangs started to push through his gumline. Yunho quickly veered off the path for fear that a fan might recognize him.

He cut through a nearby children's play area. His form was almost indistinguishable among the shadows stretching out over the expansive green landscape. His eyes caught black strands starting to descend by his forehead and wisp past his shoulders.

"No, this isn't happening. Not now!" Yunho cried to himself.

The Dark lept from the grounds and landed softly in some nearby flowers. He sat down, his hand still clasped firmly over his mouth. The vampire fell backwards, his raven hair sprawling out over the ground below him. A familiar scent floated upwards to his nose. Yunho turned his head to see yellow flowers bobbing from the rain falling on their delicate petals. Even though it was night time, the blooms were fully open. Yunho turned his head as he removed his hand from his mouth. His long fingers reached up and touched the delicate petals.

A field of yellow flowers. He was walking through them. He had spent the majority of the day wandering the grounds. He was heading toward a hill with an ancient tree. His robes were brushing over the landscape. His dear friend had loved the yellow flowers. But his dear friend was now gone. He was alone but not for long. He would be able to join him soon.

Yunho's fingers fell from the plants as if he had been burned.

"My dear friend," Yunho whispered to the night. "They will not take you from me again. I swear."

The words disappeared from Yunho's mind as quickly as they had left his mouth. He remained laying there as the rain continued to fall over his form. He knew he should be walking somewhere but for the moment, he just couldn't remember why.

And the shadows and yellow flowers looked on silently.
