Writing and reading decrease our sense of isolation

I have two LJs. That isn't a secret; I started the second one to record my thoughts and feelings as I re-read LOTR this past summer. I read LOTR every summer, but this was the first time I kept a journal, and I'm happy I did. I read more carefully and, even after forty years, made discoveries about the characters and their adventures ( Read more... )

Oh, and you're an Anne Lamott reader. Of course you are. *glomps*

I just went and friended your other journal, but I am refraining from reading the Firefly/Serenity post. Yesterday I received my shiny new DVD of Firefly, which I am watching in prep for the movie (coming soon to the English-language theatre in Frankfurt). I watched the pilot in one long, breathless gulp, and Mr Pi and I are both enthralled. *glee* I can tell I will soon be making Firefly icons and babbling happily about it. In fact, I plan to post about the pilot today, quite happily. *g*

Annie Lamott! Yes, I love her, and especially that book and Operating Instructions.

Oh, I can't wait to read your thoughts about Firefly, and later Serenity. Do not read my post! It's chock-full of spoilers about the movie. But I'm anxious to learn your thoughts about the show.

Oh, have you read "Hard Laughter"? That's maybe my favourite. And I always want to give people a copy of "Operating Instructions" right on their children's first birthdays. :-)

I have a friend who's expecting her baby in February, so her Christmas present is Operating Instructions. I laughed till I cried when I read it, and I don't have kids.

My library doesn't have Hard Laughter, so I just ordered it via inter-library loan. Thank you for the rec!
