Intriguing Technique - ConsumerKitten Happy With USB Data Cable Finally

What a long title.

Anyway, this miracle did happen, the USB Data Cable works. Huge yayness. I got the booklets to the SonyEricsson K500i and while browsing through them it just struck me that nearly every function can be used through the computer - at least theoretically. So I tried to check what's wrong with the cable/software/hardware.
First I went to the SonyEricsson homepage - they have a pretty dumb Support Centre with no useful information, but some updated softwares [which turned out to be even dumber. I deleted them all and swore that from now on I'll use softwares with open source code only - hah, I thought that would never happen, the only problem here is the OS. I don't dare...]. I downloaded a few of them just to realize that I had the same on the CD they sold with the cable.
Then checked the hardwer settings on the Control Panel - all the needed ports were opened & enabled and well-configured. But it was suspicious that "Mobile Phone Options" didn't show up on the panel - but it should have.
I got pretty disappointed when I had to learn that SP2 is required for WinXP - I was so naive I believed that it won't work.
And then I opened the Settings window for the Sony Mobile Phone Monitor and found something even more suspicious: it read that COM3 and COM4 were disabled & unreserved - so I quickly enabled COM4 and reserved it for the mobile and it was there, synchronized and shiny, the connection built up in a second.
The softwares caused further disappointment, but I solved this problem as well as I downloaded FMA from SourceForge. It's something clear, logical and bright.

So by now my phone No.2 [the ichiban phone is the pale pink Siemens C55 my fiancé bought me two years ago.] is stuffed with fluffy background pictures, the ringtone from One Missed Call. Consumerism works wonders: it enhances your ability to solve problems, at least.
