suyang should diaf, and other thoughts on the princess's man, up to episode 16

I am currently rabidly obsessed with everything about this show. The political machinations and wall-to-wall murders of Suyang (now King Sejo, dammit!) are just as addicting as the Seung-yu/Se-ryeong fiasco love story, perhaps even more so. I hate the guy SO FREAKING MUCH and wish he'd at least get deposed (but this doesn't happen, goddammit), but I admit I admire his ingenuity and single-mindedness. I'm amused by how clever he (and that ape-faced minion) is, and it frustrates me that no one among the heroes has his brilliance. Case in point: Seung-yu has devolved from harmless idiot (um... bringing "princesses" to gisaeng houses isn't exactly a sign of intelligence, Mr. Scholar) to suicidal dumbass. Jeong Jong and Princess Gyeong-hye (as much as I love them to bits) have done nothing but sit while others make plans that inevitably fail because Suyang et al. are just so smart. I know the writers were stuck with canon: Suyang was never deposed and managed to pass on the crown to one of his sons. However, I wish Team Good were actually smart enough to pose a genuine threat. As it is, Suyang and his cronies just ferret out any dissenters and execute them without even sweating.

Thank God we now have the smart musketeer ajusshi to remedy this, and I'm very happy that Se-ryeong has finally grown some brains after being kidnapped by Seung-yu. I'm so proud of you, girlfriend. Oh, her maid Yeo-ri is one of the most sensible and rationale characters on this show. I love her SO MUCH.

Myeon infuriates me. I see where he's coming from, being pressured by his father into helping butcher his best friend's family and all, but then he expects other people to still like him after that? He has the gall to ask Jong to be his best man after news of Seung-yu's death. And then he demands that Se-ryeong devote herself to him. I was feeling sorry for you for the filial piety thing, but after those woe-is-me stunts you pulled, hell no. Diaf, you creep.

kdrama, historical, the princess's man
