daebak!!!

My love for Rooftop Prince just grows with each episode. The perfection that is the Lee Gak/Park Ha OTP plus the three ducklings waddling after their daddy and mommy (as daddy waddles after mommy) continues to draw me in. They're so functional together. Their relationship (both platonic and romantic) feels so grounded and natural. I love that Lee Gak and Park Ha's burgeoning attraction is built on a friendship strong enough to weather any future awkwardness or the machinations of one Hong Se-na.

Thoughts on episode 6

I admit I kept losing interest whenever that gratingly infantile aunt shows up, or whenever Tae-mu's creepy dad (whose frozen smile just freaks me out) appears. I don't even get why the great-aunt has to have scenes. Those scenes could've been put to better use. More Man-bo/Chi-san/Yong-sul comes to mind.

And then Park Ha slaps Se-na and calls the bitch out on her WTF-ery, and I know TPTB know what they're doing. I'm sure that by the time Park Ha remembers Se-na leaving her to rot in that truck, she's no longer under any delusions that Se-na knows what the words feelings and love mean. Still, discovering that your step-sister is little more than a pretty robot designed to target wealthy bachelors must be hard to swallow.

Look at my OTP being all awesome and sweet. I love that Lee Gak trusts Park Ha so completely. Rarely do I see an OTP trusting each other without one being a vapid doll, so I tend to fall madly in love whenever I see a pair that's functional and sensible. It's she who crushes on him first, but it's nice to see that he does care for her and shows it when it matters. They have fun and spend so much time together, the romance is inevitably the next step.

Thoughts on episode 7

DAEBAK. Best episode of RP thus far, imo. Sure the maternal abandonment debacle detracts from its awesomeness, but it's interesting that Park Ha and Se-na are blood sisters. Oh, and Park Ha is awesome, all cold and calm while Se-na rages on about destroying her blah-de-blah.

And then we have Lee Gak and the guys being all precious and petty, and more OTP development than you can shake a stick at. Lee Gak cancels tours with Se-na to help Park Ha find her mother, thus putting her needs before any desire to spend time with his reincarnated wife. The manner in which he blows off Se-na is so offhand, it's hilarious! Se-na's bitchface after is even more hilarious and satisfying.

And then he learns how to pull pranks and run with Park Ha, and hugs her, a woman not related to him by blood or marriage, as she cries.

This OTP. My heart.

I think I may be in the minority when I say that I feel for Tae-mu. I feel like that guy has been put upon all his life. He's intelligent and raring to prove himself to Granny, but he's always second place to the uninterested Tae-yong. And then when he falls in love, he falls in love with a soulless golddigger. That guy has some serious anger management issues, but I disagree with people saying he's a one-note villain. I can see why he's the way he is, and I think that if things were different, he would've been a good guy.

I love this show. I don't have the feverish obsession I had with MoonSun here, but (as later episodes proved) that show is proof that some shows just don't deserve the mania they inspire. I'm happy to report that Rooftop Prince, despite some hiccups in execution and not-as-phenomenal ratings, deserves all the love it gets and more.

kdrama, rooftop prince
