Eventing and other SCA stuff

Thank you to everyone who had input on how to de-shrink my gown. I think its mostly fixed. I managed to re-shape the bodice enough that its wearable and will be better fitted once I loose the weight promised by the boot camp we start at work this week. (assuming the weight doesn't only come off places like my ankles and face. I have YET to loose boobage when losing weight. *sigh*) I essentially put the gown on SOAKING wet and wore it for a few hours like that. Icky clammy wool and linen but productive. I haven't tried it on since it dried but I think the bodice and sleeves will fit. I found the leftover blue wool frpmthe gown and there is enough there to cut the bottom pink guard in half and a a few inches of blue in between pink guards. Here's hoping!

Events

I apparently have missed writing about a few events. I think I need to keep a paper travel journal as well since this weekend inspired me to to jot a few things down (both SCA and personal related) but didn't make it. Now I have to try to remember.... ick.

First up was Avacal/Tir Righ War.
cat_cetera and I drove out Thursday morning to help with site set up and stuff. We ran into Kirk, Beothuk and Suna in Golden at the Husky which was pretty amusing. Nothin like being jumped from behind by who knows who on the side of the highway! Kirk, Thuk and Suna headed out of the gas station a few minutes ahead of us and were pulling a trailer so they couldn't go over 100 most of the time. Oddly enough they made it to site more then an hour ahead of us.... Stupid timey wimey bubbles.
We got to site in the only break from rain thus far in the previous 24 hours. Rain was the only real issue for the set up of the site. People like Pol the Blackfist pulled up their braies and went above and beyond! He shoveled shit for 2 days straight to try to clean up the buffalo poop. I spent a goodly amount of time pretending to not be wet and miserable on Thursday night with the rain POURING down, good friends and disgusting yet amusing stories from friends helped. The rain cleared up on Friday just in time for site to open which was just as well. War happened! I spent most of the time running around trying to accomplish things and making sure my friends and royals were watered, fed, happy, at things on time etc. It was a good test run of the upcoming reign for K&B for both them and their ret. We settled some questions and adjusted some plans. I think we are ready on that front for things to go live!
The event was a great time. If I hadn't known the "issues" that cropped up from being in the royal camp and on site early I would never have known there were any! Sir Oak has introduced "Norse Stick Wrestling" to Acaval... Scary! Even cat_cetera and Althea got in on it!

Next was Dragons Tear in Stanwyrm
This was an event I have never been too. Its in Artemisia and about 6 hours south of Calgary. cat_cetera and I left after work at 4pm and rolled into site about 11pm. No issues at the border, in fact the guard was amusingly personable! So rare passing through the border! The drive is pretty flat and straight until you get into Lewis and Clark National Forest, more on that in a second. We did stop in Great Falls for a bathroom and booze run. We stopped at the first sign that said Liquor which happened to be in a casino (my GODS there are a lot of Casinos in Montana). This particular casino advertised itself as "The most Liberal Casino in Montana" with rainbow unicorns on the sign, leave it to me to find the Gay casino in town!
Driving down to site from Greatfalls was quite the exercise in imagination! It totally felt like we were driving into a Zombie Apocalypse. The lightening flashing all over the place, the trees closing in on the side of the winding road and the complete lack of signs of humanity was neat. I kept expecting severed body parts to hit the windshield. I think cat_cetera is penning the zombie adventure at some point.
The event was AWESOME! So relaxed and laid back. I like having no particular schedule to meet once in a while. We rolled in and sat around the fire for a while (with a brief interlude of setting up K&B and T&W in the cabins) singing and carrying on. Slept in, had a awesome fun water fight with K&B's kids while the rest of the adults did boring adult things like archery and A&S classes. Napped in the afternoon, then drank YukaFlux into the WEE hours of the morning! Played my first game of Toblero EVER against Wilma. Toasting the Queen is kinda interesting when she is sitting right beside you! Silly Kirk said he would drink my Queens numbers for me. You know its one of THOSE nights when the Tanist is being the stunt liver for his retinue! We then moved onto Beothuk's Dice game where the Queen of Artemisia KICKED ASS! So much fun! They are awesome people and I look forward to Whipping Winds to see them again. The drive home was less insanity inducing since it was daylight and had great breakfast/lunch with the whole Avacal Crew (minus Ellias and oblivions who headed straight home and therefore didn't get lost in Greatfalls with Their Most Excellent Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dumb's, both sets :) I am so adding this event to my regular list of summer events!

There was more, but that can all come later.

Now off the the races on the Apron Dress for Bryjna! Must be completed TODAY!
