As requested, a separate website has been set up on the House Fine Lames site for dress blogging, I will cross post here until all of you interested in my dress diaries have book marked the new site :P
http://hfl.avacal.org/blog/ As I near the end of the comission for Gemma, I am looking to my 12th Night entries for Montengarde A&S. Having had a number of ideas of things I want to do, I have decided on something I have some basic knowledge of already; blackwork. Pier Francesco (Caterina) was sending me some images from the Web Gallery of Art she thought I might not have seen before and she came across this one done by Hans Holbein the Younger in 1526.
In the bottom right corner is Dorthea Meyer in the white dress. A detailed look at the dress shows some very pretty blackwork embroidery along the bust and shoulders then a different pattern on the banding on the sleeves. I hope to recreate the trim on this dress (maybe one day actually make the dress, but thats for further down the road).
Step one, draw the patterns out on graph paper…
