Yes! Once you get past security, you're all right. Internet is seriously the primary distraction of everything ever.
I'm still only about 1/3 through the first book, because I misplaced it for a couple days (I left it on a counter downstairs and didn't realize), and when I found it again, I was in the midst of working my way through a couple other things. I'll get through it soon enough, though. :) I have the bad feeling, though, that most of the characters I like are going to die and/or Mr. Martin is going to be like Robert Jordan in having a bunch of different plot threads going on at once with a bunch of different characters, and I'm not necessarily going to like / care about all the characters, which often enough results in me just not finishing or only skipping to the plot threads I care about. ^^;
I'm bad that way with books. I get attached to characters and then want to follow their plot threads, and when new characters get thrown in, even if on their own, I'd like them, sometimes I just can't love them the same way and start :(-ing at the book and not necessarily ever finishing it. Or it could wind up like Wheel of Time, where I wind up despising most of the characters after a while. So we'll see. :) But like I said, I really like what I've read so far!
... though actually reading fills me with a bit of anxiety, because you just KNOW that everything is going to go to hell in a handbasket very soon.
Anyway... hm... I always liked Misa, because I liked her design and -- I don't know. There was just something about her that I found fascinating. Though yeah -- her voice can be grating, sometimes. I read the fic just a little bit ago and have it bookmarked to leave a proper review on soon, but I liked it. And wanted to give her a hug. :(
Hmm... I do think that you write unpopular characters might have something to do with it. But even "accepted" fic authors don't necessarily get a lot of reviews, even with really popular characters. I don't think that the Silmarillion fandom is very good about leaving reviews on a lot of things.
Still - who knows? I think you have to sometimes really push your way into some fandoms. Just tentatively poking won't get you accepted, but if you, like, dig in and force your way into people's attention, that sometimes works. or maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree here. I dunno.
But wait -- what?! Isn't it common etiquette to ask someone before you translate your fics? But... what? with snarky comments? :( That's mean.
But hrmph. *hugs* Slowly getting through replies again now. :) And the review is half written. xD; *sloooow*
Heh, that happens - and I...like Jordan, so I probably can't talk? But I know a lot of people who don't like Jordan like Martin, so stick with it? And yeah, I would...worry a bit about the characters you like. Though I have to ask, who do you like?
(And honestly, the characters do develop, so there is that.)
...I will look the other way and whistle innocently. But I'm glad you're enjoying what you've read so far!
Misa does have good design and I think like just about everyone in that show she has a very tragic arc. But yeah, her voice got on my nerves. The more I tend to think about her, the more I tend to feel sorry for her at the very least, though. And yeah, at the end...that was really very sad, because as someone pointed out, she was just a girl who'd lost the guy she was in love with once she forgot everything, and didn't even know why.
This is true. I might just be oversensitive (am oversensitive) and I'm really bad at being pushy in fandom. I tend to be a tentative poker at most things, and sometimes that just doesn't work, it is true.
It was...yeah. A bad time, and I got really freaked out about posting things for a while and am still kind of insecure and periodically check to see if someone's still doing it. The entries are around somewhere. But it was not a happy thing to come across randomly on the internet.
Hey, you're not the only one getting slowly through replies, obviously...or the only one who's slow in general, ahahahaha.
