It wasn’t like they had ever planned this, but that didn’t make him feel any better. Even if Alex was never big on going to church with their mother, he had listened to enough of the pastor’s sermons to know that this was wrong.
“God has nothing to do with us anymore,” she murmured softly, playing with his hair as she read his thoughts. “He wouldn’t want anything to do with us even if we weren’t doing this. We’re devils now, remember?”
Alex shushed her, kissing her forehead. “We’re not. We’re still us, Liv,” he whispered. “We’ll always be us no matter what happens.”
“But we never wanted this before.”
He nodded, even though deep down he wasn’t sure that was entirely true. “But you’re okay with this?”
A moment of silence passed before blue eyes slowly met green. She didn’t need to give him an answer, he saw his face reflected in them. Just as it always had been.
He just knew that they loved each other and this was just another step. This was another way to show her just how much he did.
There was something comforting in that thought, something that it made it seem a little less scary.
Olivia smiled weakly. “Love should never be scary. Love is never something to be ashamed of either, Alex.”
He kissed her gently, hesitantly, laughing softly as all his fears drifted away. It wasn‘t any different than any other kiss, it was possibly even better than any of the (few) others he had when he was alive. “Well, I am kind of ashamed to be seen with you,” he joked.
“The feeling is definitely mutual, giant boy,” she shot back
He grinned. This definitely wasn‘t going to change much at all.
