She brushes her hair first, wincing as her metallic brush hits blonde snarls and takes one good, hard look in the mirror. He came by again today, and she had given in, just like always.

Lilly knows there's no harm in being a sexual person. There's nothing wrong with going after what you want as long as no one gets hurt. And she wants Dodger, even though she knows deep down that it should be a temporary thing. There's always a voice in the back of her mind telling her that he will hurt her. It's just a matter of time.

She sighs at the scowling, worried girl in the mirror and makes her way to her tiny bedside table. Once she pulls out her tarot cards, she sits Indian style on the light blue bedspread and takes a deep breath. She's done this every night for as long as she could remember. Even before she had gotten into the occult, she had been fascinated by it, the shamans and wise old gypsy women whose shops and homes her mother often frequented. She had begged for her own set at the tender age of seven, and her mother gave in.

They're the same cards now, well worn even though she doesn't use them to ask if she's going to marry Jason Priestly anymore. As she deals them out in a Celtic cross pattern, she allows herself to think of him, and wonder what would happen if they ever had a future. She pulls the lovers on her first try, and a smile plays at her lips.

"Great, tell me something I don't know."

The moment she deals another, she wishes she could take back her words. It's the hanged man, and he's inverted, a warning sign for danger. She pulls another and nearly gasps when she sees it.

It's death.

She knows it's not literal. It doesn't really mean she or Dodger are going to die, but it's a sign that things have to change.

Something has to come to an end.

The cards are gathered up hastily, and she nearly tosses them back into the drawer before pulling her knees back up to her chest.

"They're just cards," she tells Milo as he climbs on her bed a few moments later for some midnight kitty snuggles.

Because deep down, she knew it wasn't ending anytime soon.
