That first Christmas break was definitely the worst. Jess went home to spend the holidays with her family in Ohio, and Sam makes up some lame story about going back to go on some big hunting trip.
"A tradition," he had said almost proudly. "We do it every year."
It wasn’t a total lie, they probably were hunting something, but he wasn‘t going home.
He spent that Christmas curled up in his dorm, eating a lukewarm Swanson Christmas Special. He even got a little festive, and watched A Christmas Story.
Well, until they got to the part about the rifle.
